I'm having a problem where I'm not getting extra lives for reaching 200,000 points. Also, anything I earn while gambling (except level codes) doesn't carry over once I start the next level. It seems the only way I can earn extra lives is through collecting actual 1-ups, which makes the game pretty punishing!

Tried on both Hard and Easy settings, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Anyone else notice this?
This is something that wasn't carried over to the PC version. The only way you can actually earn extra lives is by collecting 1-up frog dolls in the levels. I think the main point of the gambling machine is to earn level codes, and anything else is pretty much swept aside. I've never won an extra life via said machine, though, so I don't know about that...
I see, thanks for clearing that up :) Seems like such a trivial thing to leave out of the PC port.
Well that answers my question. After a 20 year hiatus, I thought it was just me going mad.

I immediately became suspicious when the "start/collect" button on the gambling screen only had "start".
Whilst the level codes can be earned from there, there really is no other point gambling, but that said, there's no point collecting your points at the end of the level either, as that doesn't add onto your score in this version.

It's a pity though, earning a bonus life every 200,000 points was really handy- especially having to train yourself how to play again.

Is there any chance of this trivial omission being added in at any point???

I doubt it, since the original version was written for DOS over 20 years ago and I think in order to do this you'd need to make some changes to the code.

Thanks for the reply. What about the Amiga version? Everything on that version worked as it should. Any likelihood of the DOS version being superseded by the Amiga version at any point?
