Hello fellow cultists,
I have just finished the game (thanks to the amazing december patch) and I have been left with possibly more questions than answers. I know that this is sort of the point of this universe, but I wanted to have some chat and opinions going, hence this post.

* spoilers ahead * don't say I didn't warn you.

What is the meaning of the end of the game? Ok, the wickedly evil black mouth turns out to be the abysmal man. We knew for some time that he (it?) was the source of evil behind this, pretty much confirmed since the theatre scene, but what is the point of him reaching out to us in the first place then? And why in the ending cinematic, the narrator speaks of our quest to find the Necronomicon? Has it ever been our mission at all? I don't seem to remember a single istant where we have been willing to find the damned book.
So I am essentially left with what I know being kind of a pointless question in a world gone mad and insane but... What is the meaning of the ending? What has really happened? Who is the abysmal man? Have we just been toyed with from the beginning? Is there a purpose to any of this?

Thanks for your inputs.

The "quest" to find the Necronomicon is in the poem you got from the bank safe - that stuff at the end about "finding the book that must not be read" or something pretty clearly points to it.

The reason for everything else is either a) because Lovecraft, or b) because the devs ran out of time so had to jam whatever they had into a game and this is what we got, or c) somewhere between a and b.

Maybe the "Dismal Man" wants to just mess with everyone - with humans as well as the Migo - just for kicks? He seems to be enjoying himself...
