This video is for anyone who wants to tweak the DOSBox settings of the GOG.com release of this game. But it also shows how you can get this GOG.com release to run on a MS-DOS Gaming PC.

Part 1: Tweaking DOSBox configuration
Part 2: Preparing the game to be installed on a MS-DOS Gaming PC
Part 3: Installing and configuring the game on a MS-DOS Gaming PC
You could try messaging Judas if you think this would make a good "sticky".

Seeing the game run in the real dos installation near the end of the video it looks amazing and so smooth, I can't get any demanding 3D dosbox games (I don't have Strike Commander but have all the other Commander games) to run that smoothly via the gog dosbox installations (my rig is not top of the line but I have an i7 3770K, 16GB DDR3 and a Radeon 7970 3GB OC, roughly equivalent to the newer 280X mid range cards, so I don't have any problems with the majority of modern highly demanding games outside extreme cases like ARMA3), is it actually possible and I've been doing something wrong? The games are unplayable compared to how this looks on the video but you don't show gameplay in the dosbox installation part to see the difference.

Hi!

Thanks for the interest!

You can try tweaking the cycle settings of DOSBox. Your machine shouldn't have trouble running this game well.
Phil

I tried to look at your video for tweaking Strike Commander GOG and DOS install. However the video is no longer available.

How can I obtain this information?

I'm really sorry about this. I've made a new, much better, Tweak Guide and will post it in the main Strike Commander forum section.

Thanks! I'll check in there. I've about given up on GOG/DOSBox games as I've found no useful information on how to make them run and display properly on a Win7 system.

OK. I found the video and it's very informative. When time allows I'll give it a go. However I was not able to understand which Midi emulator you were using. Could you please provide a link or site address?

In your opinion, what is the best choice: A genuine legacy system, or Win7/GOG? BTW, I have several FULL Thrustmaster systems including rudder pedals and adjustable ACM cards that I'd like to be able to use.

RE: Legacy system. I seem to recall running all of my favorite DOS games on a Win98se machine using Socket A Mobo's such as an Asus A78X-E Deluxe, and before that an ABit KT7A-Raid. I've got quite a collection of old Mobo's, but I don't think I can resurrect enough CPU's, RAM strips and peripherals to make a 486 system.

Hi there!

And I gave up on making GOG DOS Tweak Guides :)

After a few, the same old tweaks are needed. So once you watched a few of my guides, you know what to do.

IMO once you configured DOSBox properly, gaming is really nice.

To build a real DOS PC, it's a LOT of work, time and money that you need to invest. I cannot recommend it to be honest, unless you really, really want to play on a real DOS PC.

I've got so much of the original hardware, software and drivers. I think I'd like to give it a go. Especially since I can't use my Thrustmaster gameport controls in Win7. Now, if there was a tweak for THAT (not counting a $800 Cougar system!)

I have the same joystick but problems galore as the game only sees three buttons.

When I fire my cannon, the gear starts operating.

FFFFFFFF ARGH.

Guide was great until the joystick part;.
