Hmmm ... I must share this.

I really liked the demo and was a bit quick to buy this. Now, in the Polish campaign I am starting to regret it.

As always, these type of games is more of a sudoku game where you must find out how to optimally solve a problem. No real strategic thinking or unorthodox ways to succeed. If you see an artillery piece, it's guarded by anti air – almost guaranteed. The usual stuff. Okay, never mind.

What I really hate is the feeling of powerlessness. Normally, the Germans should overwhelm the Polish. Instead the Polish have triple the number of tanks and fighter airplanes (which are quite strong as well). Germany has almost zero reconnaissance of Poland before they start the attack. Moreover, the Poles have really strong artillery. As the German player one always has to tread lightly and very carefully or your spearhead is destroyed in no time. Ah, the AI seems quite aggressive and capable at least.

In fact Germany fielded 61+ division against 37+ Polish ones. Germany had around 2.400 tanks, the Poles more or less 800. And the list goes on. Nothing of this is reflected in the game, at least as far as I can see.

So, I think I will quit this for good. Will not even touch the Pacific one. What do you guys think?
Hi,

i share your opinion partially.
Guarding artillery units with aa was and is a common practice, less today since most artillery is mobile either wheeled or tracked. So personally don´t see much of a critic from my perspective there.

Yes Germany fielded nearly twice as much divisions, but overall fielded 1.6 million soldiers against about 1 million polish. 2400 vs 800 tanks is in fact not completely correct, the numbers include, according to my ressources also "armored vehicles" not only tanks. In fact Poland had actually a good amount of good tanks which were equal if not better than their german opponents.

Supposed german superiority was actually just based on superior tactics and the strategy of combined assaults.
Even more clear it became in France, the french military was superior in many cases but lacking proper tactics and communication.

But your are right with your feeling the game being more...let´s say "casual" which i personally don´t mind too much.
Overall i think the game does it´s job quite well for what it wants to be.

The issue, as I see it, is the hex-layout.
I've given hex games several very good tries (Perfect General 1&2, ACW-series, Slay, Over the Reich and so forth)
But it just doesnt work for pulling off strategies and tactics, it just doesn't work.
It gets more annoying when you see the premise of a possibly cool game on a games list here/on Steam, and you see Tiger's at the forefront and videos show BOFF BANG rts/action/simulator elements/potential, then you look at actual gameplay: Stupid Hex games, grrrr :(

Heroes of Might and Magic 1 through 3 were terrific fun and played quite well, IMO.
