I have a cheap generic UBS controller for my PC, and it works fine, except this game in particular refuses to acknowledge it.

What the heck? Is this a scam so I go out and buy a controller that is approved by Sony or Microsoft? I can't even find an controller option in the main menu to register/calibrate it in-game.
