what is the silver duck thing in the pit? I can shrink it with a fae rune but that is it. am I missing something? also, I completed the fae realm best i could. i have received no info as to how to get through the first set of spear gates on upper left side of map to see the queen. i have the portrait, all trolls are dead. roses down...twice around... what the hells that? i read about a 3*3 area but don't understand. i place primroses down..please help..faeries appearing and disappearing..gave winkle the last tomb, he said safe spell casting and left me nothing.. I love this game but do i have a bug? murph rune??
No bug, the faerie realm is just really annoying. There's a spot in the faerie realm that is like a 3x3 ring, with a pillar in the center. If I recall correctly, it's slightly northwest of the center of the map, and you enter it facing north. This is the section that the "roses down, twice around" refers to. Basically, go to the northern end of this ring, where you will see what looks to be a dead end leading off of it. Put the primrose down here, then walk around the ring twice. I think you walk counter-clockwise, but I'm not sure, so if it doesn't work try going the other direction. If you do this correctly, a passage should open to the north. If it doesn't work, go back and try placing the primrose in a slightly different place. I forget exactly which square it needs to be dropped on.

As for the silver duck, I believe it's just an easter egg thing. I never figured it out myself, but apparently at some point you can find a "duck rune" and if you cast it on that duck you can find a special treasure or something. In fact, the "duck rune" might well be murph's rune, so if you have that, go ahead and give it a try. It's not necessary to complete the game though.

I believe the game won't allow me past the spear gate to the northwest. its the part where the faerie makes the portrait. I've finished the rest of the faerie realm. but I don't have access to this 3*3 area. I don't understand why the spear gate won't open to this area. could it be a bug? I had no luck with the murph rune. possibly because I shrunk it testing other rune prior to your reply. I remember this part being less difficult.

I'm pretty sure there's a keyhole to open that gate hidden in one of the walls. It's intentionally hard to see. I forget where you get the key, but I do remember that the description of it in the journal says somethign like "you'll know when to use this...". It's possible that you have to listen to the fairy players several times and they give it to you, or that you need to run some errands for some of the various other faeries scattered around, and one of them gives you the key.

Anyway, check the wall next to that spear gate (I forget which side) for a tiny hidden keyhole near the bottom. Then, if you have the key, try using it there.

Sorry my memory is so fuzzy on this, I wish I could give you exact directions to open the gate.

Hells yeah! Thank you so much. It was the key. I had the key the whole time and had all but convinced myself I had a bug or something. Good to know it was just my bad short term memory issue acting up again. I am new to the GOG site but I'm happy with the turn out. Thank you Waltorius & thank you GOG.

You're welcome! I hope the part about walking around the circle works, I think it can be a little finnicky. Also, you should talk to the queen several times. She has more to say each time you approach.
