Any attempt to change resolution (in the 32-bit version) causes the game to effectively lock up - once the "Update resolution" button is pressed, no further mouse clicks have any affect. Moving the mouse pointer causes the OK on the "Resolution set to..." dialog box to light up and keyboard shortcuts (Esc notably) can be used to go back to the main menu, but after that it is necessary to terminate the game.
Resolution changes are however saved and appear to take effect when the game is restarted. I have to say "appear" though - because while the background/main window shows up in lower resolution, UI elements do not (see screenshot). This suggests that lower resolutions are only being emulated (640x480 should result in a 4:3 display too) and I don't see any reduction in GPU memory usage either.
