The Amiga version is the definitive version of the game to have--includes a functional saved-game manager and a mouse interface, much better graphics and better sound, too. It's sort of silly to sell the DOS version of the game--which needs a Windows emulator (Dosbox) to run, but not to sell the Amiga version of the game with its Windows emulator (WinUAE.) WinUAE is terrific, btw, and runs with all versions of Windows (x64, too) including Windows 10 (no problems at all!)

GOG is generally always up on things like this so it's surprising to see them so far behind the curve on this issue. The Amiga boasted a lot of really great games so I'm not sure what GOG's internal issue might be as regards using the wonderful WinUAE...! It's an extremely well-done program that is always under refinement and has some of the best support of a program like this that I have ever seen.

You can't really have a "Good-Old-Games" site without offering some Amiga titles in there, can you? I'd love to be a fly on the wall to find out why GOG doesn't want to distribute WinUAE-compatible games. They are no strangers to jumping through hoops to obtain distribution rights for older titles, so this should be a hop, skip, and a jump for them, I would think.

And still they either offer the adfs alone, so the customer has to set up WinUAE correctly (which usually isnt that hard) or they get problems with Cloanto who holds the rights on the Amiga Kickstarts, so they cant just be copied into WinUAE by GoG ;)

Well, Cloanto & WinUAE are separate entities, and it's completely possible to use WinUAE without infringing on Cloanto's property.

I'd been using WinUAE for years before I picked up Cloanto--and if GOG really wanted to do something interesting as well as nice for Amiga classics, they could work out a distribution package with Cloanto or WinUAE. I note that the most recent version of Cloanto uses an older version of WinUAE, which continues to improve. It'd be just as easy for them to pre-configure the Amiga games individually just like they do now with their el-cheapo Dosbox emulator...;)

I think the snag, assuming GOG has already thought about this, is likely to be the thorny problem of who they deal with to purchase the IP rights for distribution. But they've had to do that before with some older DOS titles...I'm just surprised they haven't done it, yet. I doubt it's the OS X incompatibility problem--OS X compatibility is just marketing fluff, anyway--doesn't come close to driving profits for either GOG or Steam. Wish we knew...!

WinUAE needs the Kickstarts (they are not delivered with it and without WinUAE doesnt work), which are legal property of Cloanto, only other LEGAL way is to get them from your own Amiga, all other sources are illegal and therefor no option for a shop.
Cloanto Offers Amiga Forever, which is a special Winuae port, this has nothing to do with the Kickstart.

Right...so Gog needs to work out a deal to get the emulator(s) & the Kickstart versions needed...That's been my point from the start. You'd think GOG would already have done it by now...
Definitely agree! The the graphics, animation, music and sounds in the Amiga versions are far superior to other versions. Except for the lovely Sega Genesis/Mega Drive SF1 remake of course!

Yep, the Amiga version of this game is just so much better than the DOS version...here's a link to the kickstart ROMs for WInUAE should anyone need them.

It would be much better if they just re released an Amiga. There are precedents like that Spectrum Vega. A revamped A1200 in an updated form running titles from hdd with an online library to obtain more, or able to import adf's in via usb....I'd buy that.
GoG really needs the Amiga versions, so much better!
okay, so i was asking myself : what's with the megadrives's version? is there more than the no-more-permadeath on the bad side?
because it looks soooo much better
Is this under the wishlist?

And the Sega Genesis version would be awesome to see on GOG too.

Someone tried doing an official re-released Amiga, and had to cancel the project. The Amiga IP belongs to so many different companies at this point, and none of them are on good enough terms with each other to make a project like this possible.

At least not an official one, anyway.
The fact that the Amiga version is super slow has not been overlooked by all of you, right?

I mean, have you played this game enough to land on planets?

Runs great for me on my WIn10x64 AMD Ryzen box under WinUAE--highly recommended for running all Amiga games, actually! It's near flawless emulator.

Game runs at full speed--just like it did on my Amigas years ago.
