It's been quite a while since I played the original on PC, but not having any way to read the disks now, I was happily surprised when I saw GOG had the game. So I installed it. I remember there was some hoop jumping to manage saves. Basically, copy the *.COM files to a safe place (after 1st saving the game when exiting previously). So I did that and am now testing this process. Well, despite all I've read, this no longer works.
Steps used in testing:
- Play the game for a bit. Save and exit the game.
- Copy the *.COM files from PLAY into SAVE (or some other directory).
- Play the game again and either terminate the game or exit the game and select 9 (to not save).
- Copy the saved *.COM files from SAVE into PLAY and select "replace".
- Start the game and select 1 to continue
No mater what, I get the dreaded "Game in progress but not saved". Using the REMEBER and GOBACK bat files results in the same outcome.
