Hey, GOG, it's me, ViridianGames. I'd like to make a simple suggestion to the GOG Galaxy client for Starflight and Starflight 2 that would help us all out so much.

Right now, in the More > Other menu in the Starflight page in the GOG Galaxy client, there's an entry called "Reset and Start the Game". This copies the original game state to the current game state area, starting the game over. (See attached image.)

I'd like to propose adding two new menu options there:

"Back Up Save" would copy the current game state to a backup area, creating a REAL save game with a single click.

"Restore Save" would copy the backup save state to the current area, restoring the save we backed up (because we died/accidentally nuked the wrong planet/sided with the wrong faction/etc). Ideally, this would verify that we want to overwrite our current save before doing the copy, but even if that's not possible it would be better than what we currently have - which is nothing.

Starflight has long confused players with its distinction between "saving the current state of the game" and "creating an actual saved game" (and believe me, it was even worse when you had to do all this stuff on floppy discs). Being able to finally resolve this with single clicks in the client would be a great help - and would especially help new players who don't understand the system yet.

Thank you for your consideration. I remain, as ever, ViridianGames.

I realise this is something of a necro, but as you never had any responses hopefully this will be helpful.

The existing "Reset and Start the Game" option just runs a batch file that does the copying operations. It wouldn't be hard to simply expand that batch file yourself to give you the options you desire. I know that's not what you're asking for, but that would make it more convenient. If I get a chance I will have a go at making a replacement "reset.bat" myself. If I do I will post it here.
Hey SirPrimalform (and ViridianGames if you are still around). You have some solutions to saving/restoring games here: https://www.gog.com/forum/starflight/is_there_a_way_to_back_up_starflight_1_in_windows_7
