I'm considering purchasing Star Wolves since it is on sale right now for a very low price.

There are two things that make or break a game for me. Does the game have a good storyline and is the difficulty reasonable.

I was looking over the reviews and at least one review mentioned that on normal once you meet the aliens the game becomes very hard.

I know this is an opinion based question but I prefer getting feedback from users instead of website reviews. I find it to be more reliable.

Thank you in advance for your feedback.
Star Wolves doesn't have a great story but it is fun enough to keep the game going.
The difficulty fluctuates but shouldn't give you too much problems if you are able to apply new tactics here and there, there was one late mission in particular that I had to play for a week before I beat it, so it all depends on how perseverend you are.
To me this game is better than the sum of its parts, it is when it all works together it shines, and yes..., I even wasn't bothered by the apparently attrocious voice acting.

Buy it!

Thank you for the information Strijkbout.
I too am new to this game, and I have just reached the point where you meet the aliens. I have to concur with the reviewer that you read, in that once you meet the aliens the difficulty is raised exponentially, to the point where I had to completely change tactics. Unfortunately, what I did (fooled the AI by luring the aliens away from the ambush point) actually broke the game script. The allied forces stationed at the ambush point just refused to enter combat. After many reloads, the result was always the same: get annihilated by a mass alien attack, or fool the AI and break the game. I ended up beating the aliens, but had to force attack the allies to get them to actually move. The quest never completed because of this. Next was a map with an alien portal, and I have been summarily wiped out in every attempt of this map -- I like to explore each map. I will keep going, but yes, the reviewer was absolutely correct... the difficulty curve is terrible.

And don't get me started about the atrocious translation to English! I continually find myself (as a native English speaker) utterly confused at what just happened in 'conversations'. It's terrible!

I'm glad I didn't purchase the game then. Sounds like it needs to have the balance reworked.
I found that the difficult battles were difficult mainly if I didn't have cooldown abilities available at the time. The "luck" one, especially, can turn dangerous swarms into pushovers, and the use of hacking attacks on enemy capital ships makes a huge difference to those fights.
I was able to beat most fights, albeit with a lot of luck, GENUINE luck at that, not "Astra"'s magic goodluck skill! And with some slight cheating of my credits with Cheat Engine!

The game still came to an unpassable end..... I just cannot do the task where you have to destroy four portals simultaneously. Get it even a few seconds out of sync and it's insta-death.

Which is a shame. Up till this end, the game had been quite good!
