X-Wing Alliance crashes at the exact same moment every time.

Frist mission, after defending the station, Aeron says "the smart thing would be to avoid a fight". When I press T to select a Target the game crashes. I can press T before that at any time.

I',m using the new Upgrade 1.1 patch and am playing in 2560x1440. Windows XP SP2 compatibility did not change anything.

Ideas?
I am experiencing something similar.

In the mission in which you rescue Uncle Antan from the Viraxo, the game will crash with a "the game has stopped working" message when I engage the Planetary Fighters launching from the station.

I will try to reinstall both Alliance and the Upgrade pack and see if that helps. >_>

Same here. It's always crashing when fighting the Planetary Fighters, sometimes at the start of the combat, sometimes when you have docked and a new wave attacks you.

GOG+XWAUpgrade+hacked to 1920x1080.

I want to test it without resolution hack and/or upgrade, but for now I've only tried to force the game to use one and multiple cores with no luck. I guess it will be probably XWAhacker or XWAUpgrade related, but it's kinda weird for it to happen always at the same moment, and until this mission everything was working perfectly.

It must be XWAUpgrade-related somehow. I uninstalled the Upgrade pack and re-tried the mission. No more crashes. Also, I didn't use XWAhacker.
I solved mine aswell...at least for now. I changed 2560 x 1440 to 1920 x 1080 via XWAhacker and it stopped crashing.

Yeah, it's XWAUpgrade related for sure. I uninstalled it and the mission worked perfectly with both, 1080p hack and HD backdrops still on. Once I completed it, I reinstalled the Upgrade craft pack and went to the Simulator to play the mission again. It crashed as expected.

Nergal, our problem was caused by the Planetary Fighters according to Darksaber. It's going to get fixed on next version I guess.

Ah, alright. Thx for the heads-up. :)
Had same issue as OP - the first mission will always CTD at some point when trying to target anything (usually after chasing off the Viraxo) while trying to run in 2560x1440. I've noticed a square in the middle of the screen will flash white when entering hyperspace in 1440 as well.

Runs fine in 1080 though - Windows 8,.1 Radeon 7950, XWAhacker & ddraw 1.3 only
Running in Win'98 compatibility mode did away with crashes I had previously thought to be caused by XWAU mods. Can't guarantee it'll help, but it can't hurt to try, I guess. Win'98 mode forces the game to use only one core as well, comfortable that way.

I also experienced the same thing, until I did one crucial thing...I let the Andrasta destroy all the fighters. I only knocked their shields or disabled them with the ion cannons the Otana had and let the Andrasta finish it off. This unfortunately also occurs with the newer XWAUP1.1 but as long as you disable instead of destroy the game will run fine; plus bonus no new craft will launch from the hangars; until of course the Andrasta destroy's them :P.
I have been having this issue as well on BOM1 and BOM2. Whenever I run the game in 2560x1440 the game will crash at some point during a mission. I tried a bunch of different settings run as admin, run in Windows 7, Win XP SP2, they would all crash and I would see the flashing square in the middle of the screen when jumping to hyperspace.

However once I switched back to 1920x1080 the game was smooth no crashes. Maybe this is more of a xwhacker issue than a craft pack issue?
My native resolution is 1600x900, and I usually run games in as close to that as possible. From reading this and other threads it seems like a really low res to run the game, but I'd rather play it safe to avoid CTDs.
