I started the imperial campaign but there is this weird crash that seem to happen only when there are X-wings on screen (not right a way but it's been a constant), the fourth mission is borderline unbeatable because every time I get back to the Compellor to fend off the rebel scum on the x-wings the game freezes seemingly at random, it doesn't even seem to crash to the desktop right away it just randomly stops and I need to bring up the task manager just to see the window saying "xwhatever stopped working".
I played various melee on and off for a couple of months without delcing into the campaigns after beating the rebels' a few months ago and never ever had any problem with crashes, the only thing that changed in my PC is the passage from a 250gb HDD to a 500 SSD (samsung 850 evo) the install is exactly the same as I used the samsung data migration software instead of a clean install (I just don't have the time to perform one, last time it kept me two days of reinstalling stuff).
I sincerely don't know what to do.
I'm using windows 7 64 bit, GOG install with 3D acceleration patch and DGvoodoo2.

When you say "two days of reinstalling stuff" I assume you mean if you were to reinstall Windows? Because just reinstalling the game itself should be much faster than that. I'd try uninstalling and reinstalling the game to see if it helps. Could be that the game is looking for something in the wrong place after your data transfer.

No, I meant generic reinstalling of all the stuff I keep on my PC after doing a clean win7 install, it's not like I use it only to play XvT. :)

Btw since I added the game executable among the exceptions in the Security Essentials there haven't been similar crashes, if I don't get any more problems in the next few days (the crashes were fairly random, so I want to exclude the possibility of just having had a few lucky days) I'll mark it as solved.

Good to hear, I hope you have indeed sorted out the problem!
