Waltorious: I wonder if it's possible to replace the 1994 edition music with the MT-32 files from the floppy version? Since both are included with the GOG release it seems reasonable that this could be done. Anyone know?
Several people were asking about that when the 1994 edition came here. I don't recall seeing any posts that anyone had it working. :(

MrGOTIME: They really are superior in almost every way (except for graphics, but even still). I'm not sure why, but I also found some of the tough X-Wing missions a bit more "do-able" in the 94 version.

Strijkbout: I have somewhat the same experience comparing the 1994 DOS CDROM and the 1998 Windows version as I find the Windows version harder. I think it has something to do with it using the X-Wing vs TIE Fighter engine and something in the lasers has changed either being it damage spread, laser speed, rate of fire or a combination of those, as well as that the hitboxes of the enemies may have been tighter than in the DOS versions.
That makes sense. I seem to recall hearing something about how the 1998 version treats capital ships differently or something. Either way, I've had a better go of things in the 1994 Collector's CD. Still can be pretty tough, but I imagine life is hard for a rebel pilot.
Honestly I think the as of yet un re released Mac collectors CD version is the best. It has some of the1998 graphics, but it retains the original music and in game visuals, however everything ran smother and you could see ships further away. Wish they would make this version available. Same thing with Tie Fighter. I really think that the Mac versions are the best versions that have ever been made so far.
On the contrary, the 1998 hires cutscenes/concourse comes from the mac version which was 97. And of course didn't use the xvt engine.

Well put. I played the mac version when I was younger. The fact that it does not use the XVT engine makes it a real improvement. The only thing that was removed for the mac version was the pilot assignment thing.
