I've been using the Logitech Wingman Force 3D. It gets the job done, but it leaves something to be desired. Since there's no force feedback in the game and the stick requires the feedback motors to be very active to center the stick, I have serious deadzone issues.

If I take make hands off the stick while waiting for a transport to arrive or something, I start getting dizzy! I've made it through the first to tours like this, but I'm still tempted to pick up a more traditional spring-centered joystick, especially if I keep up my flight-sim kick and continue to Tie Fighter.

Im using my 360 controller since I dont have a joystick. Its working just fine for me minus some drift with the left analog stick, but thats due to my controllers age, ill have to replace it soonish.

I've used my Microsoft SideWInder Precision Pro joystick back around 2000 when I played XWA for the first time and I'm using it now. :)

Anyone know if the x-55 rhino will work with these games?

I use the Rhino joystick without a problem. I don't use the throttle for X-Wing games so I can't say if that works too.

Microsoft Sidewinder joystick. Had this joystick for as long as i can remember. It been years since I last used it (last used it for rogue squadron) and so glad it still works.

Xbox one controller. It works pretty well.

Please let me know if you find anything - every joystick I have seen is very large and not suitable for travel. I travel a lot and have been playing Tie Fighter and XWA with an Xbox 360 controller. While not perfect, it actually works pretty well. The controller is also obviously very portable and easy to carry around - I have played a few games while on the plane, and it was a lot of fun.

From what i read so far, the Saitek/Mad Catz F.L.Y 5 seems to be good for travel becouse you can easily seperate the stick from the base.

Back in the day I used a Thrustmaster Top Gun with a throttle and after I spilled a drink on it, I got an Saitek X-35. When that one broke I gave up gaming, got a Mac, and went to college. Then I got married, built a proper gaming pc, and got myself a Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS X. I couldn't be happier. This is one of the best joysticks and throttles out there. I thought about getting a Saitek, but recently I've been having a lot of trouble with my other Saitek/Mad Catz peripherals. In my opinion, Thrustmaster makes the best joysticks out there.

Top Gun Afterburner II, to be exact - the predecessor of the one from the previous Posts Attachment.
Mine has a Joystick and a Throttle, both with Buttons, 4 on the Stick plus Hat, and 4 more on the Throttle.

There's Rudder Controls for your Fingers on the Throttle as well, which handle very softly, and a Switch at the Sticks Base to toggle between using either the Sticks twist-Rudder-Controls or the Thrusters Rudder Controls instead.

Also, most conveniently, you can take the Joystick and Throttle apart - seperating them into two, to put the Stick right from your Keyboard and the Throttle left from it. Very, very convenient!

The Throttle has its issues with many Games, though. It clicks in Place, at about 10%, and at about 90%.
That's for reverse Thrust, 10% is meant to be 0, and further back is reverse - 90% is 100, and more is for Afterburners.

The Issue? Most Games think of 0% to be, well, 0. And 100% to be 100. You can't change the Settings, as many Games don't support reverse or Afterburners on the Throttle Axis. IF they support Reverse, Chances are it gets even weirder, as 50% is 0 for the Game then - and the Throttle doesn't click into Place there.

HOWEVER - that doesn't really matter too much for the X-Wing Series, as the snap to 10% is like a good, slow maneuvering Speed, and the 90% easily pushed over - and a nice Setting to slow down just a tiny bit in those Dogfight Situations. You can perfectly play XWvTF with it, as well as XWA.

For TIE FIGHTER and X-Wing, though - the Throttle doesn't work at all. It's unsupported by the Games, at least the original ones! The 1998 Versions with the XWvTF-Engines support it, but the DOS Games probably won't. Can't speak for the GoG Releases, but I bet those won't change Compatibility with the Throttle Axis.

Overall, I really love the Stick and wouldn't want any other one! If this one breaks, my Heart does, as well. I'm handling it very hareful since I broke my last Joystick while playing XWA on my old PC, trying to outmaneuver an A-Wing in the B-Wing. I made it, but my Joystick didn't. Though, perhaps it was for the best as I found the last of the Thrustmaster Sticks in a Store just the next Day! Didn't regret buying this one, ever.
