There seem to be all sorts of projects going on on these forums to recreate or improve elements of X-Wing. Unfortunately it appears I have thrown my hat into a project that's gone quiet! Still, I thought I'd share the work I did to remake the Pilot Proving Grounds music. Check it out here , if you're curious!

(And let it be known I'm now possibly available if there's a project here that's had a composer gone missing!)

EDIT: Well, this is embarrassing. I apparently haven't posted enough to post an actual link ... I'll edit this again after contributing more to the community beyond just PM'ing people!

EDIT 2: Rather than being a functional member of the community, I found a work-around to the link problem! The link is now in place. Enjoy!

Hi.
Nice work. It sounds quite different!
Were you working at project to revamp X-Wing? I didn't know there was any other. What happened to it?
By the way, I love your version of the Maniac Mansion NES Theme. :D

Have you had a look at the awesome music work that Laserschwert has done for the X-Wing in-flight music for our reimplementation of the game engine? If you want to check it, have a look here and enable the iMuse controls. The proving grounds theme is labeled Training.
I would like to know what you think of it. :)
Yes, I was working a project to some degree. Not really mine - I just answered the call-out made in this post

From my understanding, it's not a complete revamp, just a modification of X-Wing '98 to bring back the missing features from '93 and improve a few things here and there. I was never officially brought onto the team though, so I'm not sure what the status is!

I had stumbled on your project and Laserschwert's music earlier. I distinctly remember thinking "well, I guess I won't need to do the rest of the music" when hearing it. :) It's very good, but also very different from my interpretation. It's fun to hear how differently you can extrapolate these old midi songs and have both versions remain rather faithful to the original.
I reworked a few of the snippets, though it's hard to describe exactly which parts for comparison - and I do like my revisions of these sections better - but Laserschwert was able to pull off a much more prominent brass section, which is truer to the original piece and is far more Williams-esque as well. I tried to do that and failed, so I ended up relying more on my strings than I originally had intended.
Has anyone taken up the musical torch for an X-Wing Reconstructed project? It seems to be in permanent limbo after the person originally re-orchestrating the soundtrack was unable to finish their work. At the very least, a modified XWING95.EXE file that adds music back to missing spots would be helpful for anyone who wants to add their own custom music.
