Just wondering if there would be any general reason why anyone might prefer to use the floppy versions, now that we have the Cd-rom editions with iMuse. I only have X-Wing atm, and have pretty much only tried the 1998 Special Edition version anyway.

Thanks.
The floppy disk version certainly has it charms, especially the different sound effects and the graphics without goraud shading. But other than that, I think the CD-ROM Edition is the preferable version.
Yeah, no reason except for uber-nostalgia :)

Nice to have them there, but the DOS CD versions are better versions, more refined. Otherwise the same game.
From what I've read, just "true" MT-32 support, as opposed to converted General MIDI for the DOS CD-ROMs.
And to me this should be the ultimate goal for GOG: To offer ALL the different versions of each game in their catalogue. Not only to pick your favorite version, but for archival purposes as well.

I can't see or hear any difference between the floppy and CD-Rom dos versions. At all.
Thanks for the replies everyone.

First of all, there are no voiced briefing on the floppy version.

There are also different graphics as you can see there:

The floppy disk version also has neither the easier missions nor the bonus missions.

The sounds are also different from the CD-ROM Edition. How the floppy disk version sounds depends on the soundcard you select in the setmuse program.
