Maybe I broke the sequence as I finished the actual campaign first.

However, when I went to play "that" mission--the marathon TIE Defender Combat Chamber training run that requires hundreds of kills to complete, as soon as I completed the basic objectives (one kill of each Rebel fighter type at the Novice level) the mission just ended.

No option to continue, no prompts. Just, kicked to the debriefing screen.

What's going on here?

That shouldn't happen, the game always insists on you quitting by yourself regardless of what happens. Only the very last mission ends as soon as you get certain objectives.
Are you sure you didn't get killed? The mission is considered done even if they manage to kill you as long as the main objectives are complete.
Nope, definitely didn't die. Killed all Y-wing, B-wing, and X-wing.

Killed ONE A-wing Novice?
