I have recently installed TIE CE on my large computer screen (resolution 2560 x 1440).

When I play TIE CE, it stretches the display laterally so as to fill the monitor. This results in a game with a very flattened aspect ratio.

Is there any way to get DOSBox to run with a black border on either side of the game, and restore a more natural aspect ratio to the game?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Go to your GPU control panel, and set to scale while keeping the aspect ratio.

In the [render] section of you .conf file, set aspect=true

It doesn't use non-square pixels.

You are right; it would work for X-Wing but not for TIE in SVGA mode

Set the fullscreen resolution at 2560 x 1440, render to openglnb and aspect to true (just make sure vsync is disabled in you video card options as dosbox opengl doesn't cope well with it).

At least that's what I did to have the proper aspect ratio on a 16:9 screen I've been using these last few days.

I was able to get the game to run in a smaller Window (not full screen) but at the right aspect ratio. It's not a perfect solution, but it's the best I can currently do and it works okay for me.

Here's what I did:

Open the TIE Fighter game's "DOSBOX" directory, attempt to run the GOGDOSConfig.exe and get told to run it via Start Menu.

Open Start Menu, type in GOG DOS and then run "DOSBox configuration".

For TIE Fighter, deselect "Full Screen" in Basic. Select 1600x1200 in Advanced Setting for resolution (or any other multiple of 800x600).

This is definitely a kludge solution but I will try others to see if it can run full screen with black borders to left and right for proper aspect ratio.
