For what it's worth, I played through the game with a Logitech 3D Extreme Pro joystick and default speed settings. It's not easy, but definitely doable.

It seems like this game has a problem with speed and mouse sensitivity. I knew it wasn't me.
The game also has that annoying wobbly aiming effect. It is supposed to make it realistic, but it is a pain in the ass.
