Simple question: Is it possible to play this with a PC-360 controller or a joystick? I remember playing it with a joystick on my mac many years ago.

yes, it's possible to play both games with a joystick or a gamepad, though gamepads might be a little too sensitive. I'm playing it with a xbox pad at the moment and you have to be really carefull with the thumbstick :).
I'm playing it on a Mac with a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, and in RA2, the crosshair is really twitchy, but otherwise works fine. You will need to enable the joystick in the games themselves, though.

If I can get RA2 to be less twitchy, it'd be perfect.
Trying to use a Playstation 4 controller. First person sequences are fine. Third person tunnel runs are twitchy nightmares.
What's the secret. I've tried Xbox One and PS4 controller but neither work. Mouse controls are too floaty.
I've tried mouse controls, a Xbox 360 wireless controller and a Thrustmaster T-flight stick X. But mouse controls are floaty and the joystick is too sensitive. A tiny movement corresponds with a huge movement on screen. It's like they got the movementcurve wrong because a 25% movement of the stick translates to a 90% movement on screen. I've played these games when they first came out and don't remember them being this twitchy. Might be a setting in dosbox?

I was thinking they were different too. I can't get far in either game because of it. >_<
I tried playing RA1 with an Xbox 360 controller and I agree that the sensitivity is a big issue; I have trouble finishing the third mission, it's just way too sensitive and it needs to be fixed.

I'm at level 8 now with an XBox One Pad. No real problem. You just have to be sensitive, man ;)

Does anyone know if the 1.8 patch is applied to the 1st game as i think this helped improve the controls a little ? Can't find a link anywhere to test it as they were all directed to the lucasarts page.

It may also be possible to alter the sensitivity in both games by messing with the dosbox settings in the game folder.
The controls with a pad in RA1 are twitchy as best, though in all honesty it hasn't aged even a fraction as well as RA2 has, which is far more enjoyble game all in all.
FIghting the control in this game is frustrating at best. I'm playing with a Logitech Gamepad. I would suggest putting the difficulty on easy, it makes the game a bit more enjoyable.
