It's already patched to the latest version (v1.03) and already contains a couple of workarounds in order to ensure compatibility with most modern hardware (i.e. Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1, disabling aero while running, core affinity fixes etc.).
Most of the games here on GOG adhere to the same principles of already being fully patched and also tweaked for modern systems whenever required.
