So, I bought KOTOR 2 a while back, and got around to playing it recently.

So I launch it, and it works fine. Main menu is a little laggy, but I don't mind. I start a new game, make my character, watch the text crawl, and then the short intro where the flaming ship is going towards the planet. Then, the screen flashes black, and it crashes completely. I have no idea what any of the support means, so I'm hoping someone on here can help.

I've been having the same issue. I'll let you know if I can fix it.
So much good info on getting this to run, in this forum. You should give it a read.

If you've got an AMD video card, this could be because of the game's option for "Frame Buffer Effects". Try turning it off in the game's "Advanced Graphics Options".

Alternatively you could try deleting both ati dll-files in the game folder (atigktxx.dll and atioglxx.dll) or better move them into another folder, so you can simply move them back if it doesn't solve the problem.

I can't even find those files on my computer, much less in the game folder. Frame Buffer Effects are disabled by default, as well.
I had this same problem and haven't been able to fix it. I would appreciate any help.
I have turned off soft shadows and frame buffer, and put it in widowed mode but none of this works. As you said, those files do not exist.
If your computer has an Intel card, the game is going to fight you trying to run it at every turn, unfortunately. The intro crash issue seems to be related to the game needing to switch screen resolutions between the prerendered video clips and the real-time graphics. The only way I have been able to consistently run the game is to force windowed mode by editing the config file--this keeps it from swapping resolutions and thus prevents that particular crash. I've even been able to put the game back into full-screen mode once the prerendered cutscene clip was over, and it will run fine; I just need to jump back out to windowed mode when I know another cutscene is coming up, or it will crash like clockwork.
I have put it in windowed mode but it still crashes. Will you explain what you did? Am I doing something wrong when putting it into windowed mode? I added the line AllowWindowedMode=1 and then changed both fullscreen lines to 0, and when I run it is in windowed. Did you do something different then that?
I don't know if this is helpful but I installed the game on a different computer and it worked fine.

Computer specifications(of the computer it doesn't work on)? If you really want to play the game, your last option is to install Ubuntu, buy the steam version, and to play it on Ubuntu. I've actually tried it, KOTOR 2 doesn't work on Windows 10 for me, but does work on Ubuntu(14.04).
I've lowered all possible graphic settings, disabled and re-enabled movies, forced windowed mode, everything.

And this damn game still crashes.

I load up the game, make a character, click play, and then it just stops working.

I'm so confused
Hi,

I use an intel skylake i5 6500 with integrated intel HD graphics 530. Windows 10 x64
I have read through all the related posts.

I am using the GoG version.
I have the latest intel drivers.
I installed and run the game in windows 8 compatibility mode and tried again with windows xp SP2 aswell.
I have a Dell monitor 1600x1200 resolution. 60 fps. I tried this resolution and 800x600.

Currently using below settings, but have tried many variations.

[Display Options]
FullScreen=0
Disable Movies=0
Disable Intro Movies=0
Sort Modules=1
Width=800
Height=600
BitsPerPixels=32
RefreshRate=60

[Graphics Options]
V-Sync=0
Anisotropy=1
Frame Buffer=0
Anti Aliasing=0
Texture Quality=0
Grass=1
Soft Shadows=0
Shadows=1
Brightness=57
EnableHardwareMouse=1
Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1
FullScreen=0
AllowWindowedMode=1

Soft shadows and Frame buffer will always be grayed out in the game. After a fresh install and trying to run the game once both values are set to 1 in the .ini though.

I have also tried with TSLRCM_1.8.4.5.

I don't think I will be able to play the game on this PC. What do you think?

Hi,

to share something else.
The opening movie does play after character creation. It is only after when the actual game should start that the game crashes.

thank you for any insight.
