Can't even start the game and get to the startup menu since it crashes right after the Obsidian logo. Running on an Acer laptop with windows 8 and Intel i3 processor.

What do you have for graphics hardware? This game is very picky and generally won't run on low end hardware, especially the Intel graphics hardware found in many laptops.

Crap... That's probably it. It's the standard Intel HD Graphics 3000.

I have the same issues with an integrated Intel card, but I am able to get the game running just fine using windowed mode. You have to force windowed mode via the game's config file. The issue has something to do with the game engine switching resolutions in full screen mode between the prerendered videos and the real-time graphics. Once you get the game going, you can actually switch back to full screen just fine--just be sure to go back to windowed before any prerendered cutscene.

I've tried that before and I have the same graphics card. And it's still no good. I even got an email from GOG saying it won't work :( see pic attached.
