Windows 7 64 bit
AMD Athlon II X2 250
NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250

Kotor just crashes on startup. No logos, no cinematics, nothing. Screen goes blank, then says it has stopped working. I've run it in compatibility mode with XPSP2 and XPSP3, run as administrator, disabled movies, disabled hardware mouse, disabled Vsync, and tried windowing it. Nothing. Same result every time.

ok first thing = are we talking about the gog version?

step 1, uninstall the game and make a fresh install (OUTSIDE the c programs folder)... a path of c galaxy games etc is fine

step 2 open the folder and run the swconfig.exe ... don't stress about changing settings or if you fail some of the out dated tests. the bottom 3 are the important things you need i.e, sound and rendor

step 3 (optional) you can right click the Launch icon (not the swkotor.exe) and run that as Admin... see my screenshots

So, I got the fresh install outside of the c programs folder and ran the hardware scan from the swconfig, and it's saying I failed the OpenGL part.
Stupid question I guess, but do you have a graphics driver installed?

see screenshot;
you can run a test on your system by putting dxdiag into a run box
the rendor (US people say render) tab will show what the issue is

So, I figured it out. The guy who sold me the computer told me that the drivers were up to date. What he forgot to mention was that the drivers were on the backup hard drive he took. This showed me what I needed to do. Thanks!
