idk what to do this is exactly like the Steam version of the game. i bought this version hoping GOG had fixed the issue and it ran better from them, but it turns out it was just a waste of money. anyone know how to make it run without crashing?

Try disabling your antivirus. I'm guessing you probably have something like Avast or AVG?

the game starts fine showing the developer and publisher logos then when the main menu is about to start it crashes.

Then try renaming the 3 startup logo movies (they're not essential). Go to you game folder, then open the 'movies' folder. Rename these three files:

biologo.bik
leclogo.bik
legal.bik

Rename them to something like:

biologo.bik.backup
leclogo.bik.backup
legal.bik.backup

Right, it's time for some information:

* What version of Windows are you running?
* What path is your game installed to?
* Do you have Data Execution Prevention enabled?
* Do you have antivirus installed? If so, which?
The KOTOR engine was never optimized for ATI, all problems related to both KOTOR 1 + 2 vanish the moment you pop in an Nvidia. Not hitting on ATI just laying out the facts. I had this game in the past as well, I had issues on ATI luckily I now use Nvidia.

There is a strange bug with the widescreen mod/patch I'm not sure if it still exists but I think it is patch related and not the game itself. Because KOTOR was never designed for widescreen.

i actually contacted GOG Support with this issue. they said to disable movies to allow the game to play and it did work works fine. but i would rather play with the movies enabled. if anyone has a fix for this issue i would appreciate it. and as for the info i have Windows 7 64 bit, the game is installed in my Disk C: path under GOG Games. i disabled the Data Execution Prevention for the game but it didnt work. and i have Norton Security.

I am also on Window 7 64 bit, and I used this advice to get the game running widescreen. I don't have an issue with the movies, so you might want to check it out, if you have a 1920x1080 monitor.

thanks for the info but my PC is a laptop. idk if that was a factor in the patches in that post not working for me.
If you're on a laptop with an Intel card, you may be screwed. This game apparently has major compatibility issues with Intel cards. Not sure if they have come up with a solution yet, but when they first released this game on this site, they basically just had a note on the page that said "Incompatible with Intel cards." I don't see that now though, but that could be the issue.

yeah i do have an Intel card. like i said GOG Support said to disable the movies but who wants to play a game like this with no movies? idk how to fix this.
Does this on my retail version, and removing the intromovies fixes it (haven't tried Steam yet)... afterwards everything works fine (including running other videos).
