So I've been trying to get this game to work for a few days now, tried searching for fixes and I am now stuck. I am running Windows 10.

What is happening is that when I launch the game, I see the opening logo pictures etc. and everything's fine. But then as the main menu should appear, I only get a black screen. If I alt+tab out, right click the running game icon and close the window, the main menu appears with the little window asking if you want to exit and I can just select cancel and the menu is there. But now the sound has disappeared. I also get a black screen after a ingame video (e.g escape pods launching to Taris). So extremely frustrating as I would of course like to play end enjoy my all time favorite game again. I have tried to use windowed mode by editing the ini-file which worked for maybe once or twice but now the game doesn't launch in windowed mode anymore and when I try to alt+enter ingame, three quarters of my screen go black.

Any help would be immensely appreciated.

EDIT: I managed to find a way to make the game work at least for the time being by starting the game in a lower resolution and switching it to 1920x1080 afterwards. For the movies I have to switch to windowed mode (which seems to occasionally silence the game) or lower the resolution otherwise trying to get thru the movies fullscreen at 1920x1080 will result in screen going mostly black. If someone is having similar issues, I hope that this might alleviate some of them.

EDIT 2: Managed to get the game running without problems by converting the videos to 1920x1080 and setting compatibility to Windows 8.

Flawless Widescreen has a fix for KOTOR - I'm using it with Windows 10 and enjoying the game at 3440x1440 resolution. If you haven't heard of it, Flawless Widescreen is a free to download application - you'll find it by a google search. Once downloaded you just select KOTOR from the list of games and then launch the game. You need to close the game and re-launch it at least once for it to create and recognise the files it creates. After that, you should be able to see your resolution to select in the screen resolution options menu. This might solve your problems. Good luck.
You can try Flawless Widescreen, but IMO, it is flakey.

I installed at about Level 10 in my game of KOTOR, and immediately started getting corrupted save games like crazy.

Uninstalled FWS and reinstalled KOTOR, and my game went back to being stable.

I would concentrate on Google search for KOTOR with your GPU model, to get to the root of the issue, over applying hacks like FWS.
I've had the occasional crash (maybe 5-6 times out of the 20 hours I've played so far) and it does delete the quick save file when it happens - for this reason I'll do a proper save from the options menu every now and again as a safe guard. These saves along with autosave have not been affected by any crashes so I've never has to go back too far when it's happened to me.
