I have tried every bit of troubleshooting I can find but the game continues to be unplayable for me. The game either crashes almost immediately after launching or it constantly keeps minimizing itself for no apparent reason. I haven't tried KOTOR 2 yet to see if it does the same thing. All my drivers are up to date, I've tried the compatability settings, disabling movies, disabling soft shadows and frame buffer effects.

Any help would be appreciated
I own the game on steam and am having this problem. I came here to see if I could just buy the GOG version cause the fix I found for steam didn't work. (set the swkotor.exe to windows xp service pack 2 compatibility mode and administator.)
It won't lets me post links so here's the solution

means you have too many apps running in the background. some interfere with games. disable or remove unnecessary apps. I find Superantispyware kicks me out to the desk top and is uppity in general. I simply removed the program. you can also disable(some) apps. if you run MS config tool you can do a clean boot up and turn off all but video and sound services. make certain to leave those on. for instance if you use SB Command it must be on for certain high quality sound. Turn Ransom ware protection completely off! it ruins everything! can even "second guess" your white list of a program and block it regardless if you WL it or not!
@GOG

Please add this game to the Preservation Program so it gets natively patched for a simple out of box experience on modern systems.
