I downloaded this game hoping to play with my friends, but there is only a singleplayer option. I checked the website first, and it said there was indeed multiplayer available for this game. Why doesn't it work?

It's a different exe file, many FPS games did so at the time.
Try to look in the game folder, though I don't remember if the game used some dead online service for multiplayer.
