At the moment the resolution / dual monitor / background apps bugs are keeping me from actually enjoying the game fully. Will this game be getting patched at some point or am I doomed to only be able to play it in this limited capactiy?
I don't know, but it better get patched. I can't even play it at all, just crashes on startup and none of the suggested fixes have worked. If they don't have this resolved in another day or two, I'm probably going to have to refund.
Yeah, they put out a 'hotfix' version now but it hasn't fixed anything for me. Still get the rdroid_gnome errors the same as most of us in the community do.

I've requested a refund and won't buy it again for at least a month to see if they can fix it.

A shame it somehow snuck through QA testing; with the issue being as prevalent as it is, you would think it would have been encountered on at least ONE test machine. Seems like they might have tried to fix it, gotten a single launch out of it, and listed it as 'fixed'.

Such a shame.

Did you try using dgVoodoo, or even just removing the "ddraw.dll" file? It's what converts the game to DX9, and the game boots in a bit of a strange way.

Also, try running the game exe directly.
Yeah, probably gonna refund -- at least, as soon as I can figure out how you even do it.

Tried dgVoodoo, but couldn't get consistant results. It worked once, I changed nothing, and then it all fell apart. Really dunno how you ask for money for this kind of thing.
@masterotaku Sure did. Tried dgVoodoo2, tried using a copy of the actual sound drivers it uses, tried removing ddraw.dll, tried running the main .exe rather than shortcut, tried changing resolution, tried colour depth to 16bpp, tried compatibility mode, tried alternate version of the .exe with a different launcher...

None of it worked.

@Spoo Same here. Game might load once, then you get 20 or so times thereafter where it doesn't.

For me with dgvoodoo best was with none of the compatibility settings (like no run as admin, no 16 bit colors etc.).
Have you tried launch parameter -i to skip intro movies?
I had the the rdroid_gnome not responding bug while I was streaming, just to notice that obs was still capturing the intro movies and they were playing fine on the stream, but on my actual screen it was in not responding state. https://www.twitch.tv/videos/258471894 the first 6 or so minutes are just intro playing on stream while it was actually frozen for me.

PS. If you get it working you might want to keep 60fps cap with dgvoodoo, makes the 0 gravity sections actually playable. (Might do comparison at some point)

I did, unfortunately. It always freezes at the same point, about one inch into the loading bar whenever it's trying to load... something? I don't know if it's an intro movie since I had the -i flag on, but it also crashed at that point without it.

I will be happy to at least watch everyone's streams of it, but I really do wish it worked for me.
