I started the game by adjusting joystick binding settings. they weren't all correct the first time so I experimented around. However, after restarting the game (because the Escape key stopped working during races and I somehow lost my throttle control), I found that binding a joystick axis to steering or nose up/down, would instantly crash the game.

Anyone else having serious problems with controls like this?

I've just completed the game using my PS4 controller and all button/joystick mappings worked correctly. I did have some problems with the camera always facing backwards (fixed with a restart) and some buttons wouldn't perform their function as mapped in the joystick settings.

Don't really know how to help though

I ended up reinstalling the game, setting the controls up right the first time, and then leaving them the heck alone.

Thanks for letting me know that DualShock 4 works well with the game, that's my favourite console controller. For the time being, I'm having tremendous fun with my HOTAS. :)
