So the game works thankfully (bought and refunded the Steam version a while back because it wouldn't even turn on no matter what I did) BUT the resolution constantly changes when going from the menu to the main game. My laptop is slow and like 1 out of 4 times this happens it crashes, it doesn't handle full screen resolution changes well. I figured a possible fix would be to play the game in a window but I can't find any way to do that, all I find are people wanted to know how to get the game *out* of windowed mode. Any ideas of how I could fix this?

Try dgvoodoo 2.

Window mode can be enabled in dgvoodoosetup.

You can activate the advanced display settings menu:

Start the game with the command line parameter -displayconfig
Simply edit the properties of the games shortcut (right-click => Properties)
Add the parameter -displayconfig to the target field, within the quotation marks.

In the advanced display settings menu set the Display Device to DIBsection windowed display.

The only downside is that the game will be limited to software rendering. To enable windowed mode with hardware acceleration, you have to use dgVoodoo 2.

I still haven't been able to force Window mode, no matter what I do it always goes fullscreen. The Voodoo program is making it run smoother though which is make my laptop less likely to crash so thanks for pointing me to that!

This includes using the advanced settings with Software rendering that you showed DeMignon, dgVoodoo won't make it windowed either despite what I believe to be the correct settings. I'll just have to live with what I have. Thank you both for the help!
