As exited as I had been to replay JK, I'm officially confused now because of all those threads (GoG and Steam both). Steam version sounds like a total abomination. and not much of the positive reports, ok. But here i can see all kind of posts. Some say it works just fine 'as is', some struggle with 3d acceleration/resolutions/black screens/whatever issues, try multiple fixes and give up.

So, two questions here.
1. What's working and what is broken?
2. Am I getting it right, that in order to play with the community upgrades\patches I'd have to technically 'pirate' the game downloading the original installation discs and undoing the GoG version anyway?

In case it matters - I'm on win 8 (64) with 2x650M SLI, normally using 1920*1080.

I got Dark Forces II Jedi Knight yesterday. On the GoG you get a game that works for my in Windows 10 with software renderer AND the CD music. The steam version for me was broken with windows in 1/4 of the screen and no music. I had to download a Vodoo emulator to get 3d acceleration to work and use Rivatuner to lock the FPS to 45 (60 FPS feels like 30 for some reason). The tweaking took me about 10 min to do but this version is much better than the broken steam version.
The Steam version received an update today and apparently got all the fixes the GOG release has.
