Is there a way in BF2 how i can connect to a server with IP?
I mean open the console an type 'connect <IP>'. I have found nothing in that direction.
Unfortunately, the command to do that is no longer functional after the 'GOG' update as many people call it. Before people would do that by entering in IP and port for a server in launch options, but that is no longer an option because servers don't technically have a default port anymore as far as I know.
He's right. After the MMO update this game no longer able to work over LAN and not have any form of non-dedicated multiplayer.

WTF LAN functionality has been removed, seriously?! I was hoping to try LAN play this fall.

This is what I've read at least. I bought the game because it is a classic for me, but after the patching I didn't downloaded the update. The original DVD version still works for me and smaller in size that the GOG.com version.
GOG version is so much larger because they added multilanguage movie files for the cutscenes
I noticed a quite a number of "DRM-free" games on GOG having some sort of multiplayer DRM. Usually this was about the game never having LAN functionality in the first place.

So with this game, they actually actively spent ressources and REMOVED the IP connect/LAN functionality?! GOG what's wrong with you? :-(
The fact that they have removed LAN-functionality without any mention on their store page is close to a scam. I (and I am sure several others) have bought this game solely for playing LAN. Now GOG is refusing to give me a refund, even though the game was bought only a couple of days ago. Very consumer unfriendly practice :/

I’m pretty sure it has LAN, just not direct IP. The command parameter doesn’t work, but there still is a LAN option on the Multiplayer tab.
I'm pretty sure they still have LAN too. Only you cannot direct connect using IP and port anymore. It's also important to keep in mind that there's nothing stopping you from making a server and then just having people connect to that
Hi guys,

Yes you can always play on lan.
And if you want to connect directly to a server, this is the options you need to add when calling your .exe file:
"<path_to_exe_file>" /nointro /audiomixbuffer 50 -connect X.X.X.X

X.X.X.X being your server IP of course

Enjoy guys!
