I'm playing on Medium, and unless there's something unintended going on, the game single player is really poorly designed. The Campaigns are mostly fine (there are some horrific parts, especially level 7), but I've stopped on the second Galactic Conquest stage.

The enemy AI is always better. They aim better, they throw grenades better, they move more, they always try to capture command centers, they always drive vehicles, they always are better at them.

1:1, allies ALWAYS lose. They aim worse, they're worse at throwing grenades, they tend to stand still looking at walls more, they won't capture a base even when it's right in their faces, they won't use vehicles unless the command center is taken, even then they take longer to use them and are worse at them. If you leave a vehicle, the enemy take it but not your allies.

If the narrator says Defeat is imminent then it is 100% certain, but if they say Victory is imminent it is not, the enemy can turn over the situation. There simply isn't enough time to kill enemies to undo the mess of your allies at the stage I've stopped. I haven't tried Easy yet, but it's mathematically impossible to kill them fast enough, the enemy will win with 40 or 50+ more units, it's ridiculous.

EDIT: So I tried again with Easy and Hard settings the stage I was in, Kayshyyyk on Dark Side Rising. On Easy, allies could hold things on their own and it's possible to win. Hard on the other hand, even trying to get ahead as fast as possible, securing a base and finishing off foes as quickly, they'll still destroy your team, as much as 100+ difference!!! This game was NOT balanced for every setting, definitely not.

I was also thinking back in 2007, that the AI is very unfair. As far as I know, the AI got harder with one of the patches, maybe the patch which brought Jabbas Palace.

So I think the base game (and in that logic the console versions as well) play differently.

I'm not aware of any downgrade patch, but there will exist one for sure.

Some years ago, when I saw BF1 servers via GameRanger, some people were playing the game with an older version then my DVD version. Who knows if it was for that reason.

Not sure what the patch from 01. May changed. I have still the retail disc.

Three attempts at ›Fall of Yavin 4‹. Am I expected to carry the whole team ?
Only I have a positiv K/D-ration. Everyone else is canonfodder.

Edit:
There is supposed to be a screenshot here.

My stats are 44-5-1
Best bot has 9-11-1, more deaths than kills as every other ally.

Enemies: 6 have positive K/Ds, one even 10-2-0

Keep in mind that the game is made in a different era of video games. An era when the balance didn't matter, only the fun. That's why there are classes as OP as the Droideka, but very satisfying to use. But in the next game (SWBF2) it got nerfed anyways.

The player has to do everything possible to win, the AI is only a little help (and believe me it does enough compared to the AI of many current games).

I understand your frustration, but it is possible to win at the highest difficulty. Obviously you won't always get it the first time, the luck factor will always be there... although in some maps there are tricks to win. For example in Geonosis as the Republic, take the shuttle ship and shoot the super combat droids, droidekas and vehicles, also destroy the fuel tanks of their base.

In Rhen Var, the key is the cave corridor where a tremendous bottleneck is formed, ideally take the demolition class and constantly throw grenades and shoot with the rocket launcher. Stay close to the engineers so they can supply you with ammo or go to an ammo droid to retrieve it.

In Bespin, the same, go to the bottleneck and blow up the enemy with grenades and rockets.

I advise you to watch videos on YouTube about this game, you will learn how to play although it is preferable that you learn how to play by yourself. The good thing about this old game is that the AI ends up being predictable and you know how to fight it.
