gbtstr: Glad to see these Interplay games back from the grave. There were some stinkers in the mix, but this stuff was the golden age of Star Trek games. I'm digging playing Starfleet Academy again, though, I don't remember it being this difficult. Maybe I was just better back in my gaming prime.

Anyway, I always wanted to try SFC2/OP but the timing didn't work out such that I had the money and the computer power. I've always heard from others that this was the version to get.

The original SFC was a blast to play, though, a steep learning curve at first. I had a lot of fun with it once I figured out what the hell I was doing.

SFC 3 was pretty dumbed down, but it had a ton of mods. There was a really nice TOS total conversion mod out there that I enjoyed immensely.

I hope they bring some more Interplay games - like SFC2 and Klingon Academy.
No need to wait for Gog! Taldren gave Dynaverse.net the software and a CD-key generator after that game developer went out of business around 2005. http://www.dynaverse.net/market/5-star-trek-starfleet-command-orion-pirates.html

You can download an .iso which usually needs MagicIso to mount it properly. (Virtual Clone Drive might work. Other .iso apps choke sometimes.) It's $6 for the download. Dynaverse.net is run by Frey in Texas at his own expense from his own house for many years with volunteers and sporadic PayPal donations from fans to keep the game alive. Dynaverse.net is the forum for a non-profit gaming association. The $6 pays for server hardware, electricity, bandwidth, etc. Frey runs in the red every year.

The unofficial developers and content creators work in this obscure minimalist forum founded by fans of the SFC series. It is a lively forum with old Kzinti, Romulan, and Gorn officers from the days of Starlance. http://www.hotandspicyforums.com/sfc-news-f3.html

The www.dynaverse.net forums have very little activity these days, but they do have download links and ten years of SFC-related history.
