I don't appear to be able to remove the word 'Captain' or amend it in any way upon starting a new game.

Anyone else got this issue?

I had to run the .exe and not via the GOG game client to be able to change it.

This error also pops up on XP machines. One must ALT-Tab out of the game and click the Windows Firewall exception to get past the problem.

A way around this problem, which is probably present on all systems, is to either:

- start game with no other items running in the background, except the game. That means no browsers, no open folders, notepads etc.

- just alt+tab out of the game, and go back. The keyboard should be activated by that time. However, Windows 8 might have problems with alt+tabing out of the game, so you might try using Esc button, and then clicking on the game from the Menu Bar at the bottom. As I mentioned above, you just need to alt+tab. There is no need to enable Windows Firewall, although it will be helpful should you decide to play multiplayer :)
