Anyone else whit this problem?

I have the same issue, once its past the title and Start a game from the main menu the sound cuts completely as soon as it loads onto the bridge and does not ever come back. I have tried different compatibility modes and reinstalling and no luck so far.
Same. Game also froze on me when I tried to exit and I had to sign out of windows to get it to close.
Some additional notes:

1, Tried running stbc.exe using all available compatibility modes (on Win10 x64) -- nothing worked.
2. Noticed the game only does software audio w/ the other option greyed out. Not sure what that means, but hey, seems relevant.
3. Testing all of this is a huge PITA because the game literally will not close. Trying to exit the game freezes the application, typically requiring a full sign-out for Windows to force it to close. Yeesh.

Judging by this forum (and the reviews) it seems a lot of people are having a lot of issues with this game. Is GOG working on patching them? Is there any hope for an improved build, or are we stuck with this? I really don't want to ask for a refund, because I have very fond memories of this game, but at the same time it's kind of hard to justify paying any amount of money on a game that doesn't work.
What ended up working for me thanks to the support team, is uninstalling and making sure it is a fresh install into:
C:\Program Files\GOG Games\Star Trek Bridge Commander
and under compatibility checking disable fullscreen optimizations and run as administrator. I have also been launching the game from the .exe itself and not a shortcut and the issues seem to be resolved and it runs great. I hope this helps.

Are you using Windows 10? I tried that, but still have no audio.

Yes, I am using windows 10. Sorry I was really hoping it would help.
Fixed it.

I'm running on Windows 11.

I ran it from the default GOG directory (D:\GOG Galaxy\Games\Star Trek Bridge Commander in my case). I didn't have to install to Program Files or wherever.

First you need to generate the options.cfg file which you do by running the game once.

If you have problems running the game for the first time, consider setting the Compatibility Mode on "Launch Star Trek™ - Bridge Commander" short cut, or "stbc.exe" to "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack2)".

You can also set compatibility to "Run this program as administator."

If you still have problems running the game for the first time, try setting "Disable full-screen optimisations" in the Compatibility Mode tab.

You only need to set the Compatibility mode the first time you run it, if it doesn't run as is. You can then revert the Compatibility Mode by unclicking everything after the game has run for the first time.

Once you manage to run the game (just going to the Settings menu after ESCaping from the intro screens should be sufficient) you'll have to CTRL+ALT+DELETE -> Sign Out to get out of the game.

When you log back in to you PC, open File Explorer and go to your "Star Trek Bridge Commander" directory.

Backup the "options.cfg" file in case something breaks and you have to restore it. I just copy it to a file called "options.cfg.orig". Name doesn't matter, as long it's different from the original name and you can find it easily if you need it.

Then, edit the actual "options.cfg" file. I open it in Sublime Text as there are some special binary characters in the file and Sublime Text has no problem with them. You can actually delete those special characters. Sublime Text shows them as "<0x00>"

I don't recommend opening in Word, or Wordpad as they tend to put in special characters. Notepad should work fine. I think it just drops the binary characters, but that doesn't harm the game.

You only need to turn off Full Screen mode to get the game to play with sound.

Just change "Fullscreen Mode|1" to "Fullscreen Mode|0".

The problem I have is that I have a very wide screen and the window opens in the top left of my monitor. There's no title bar to drag it to the centre of the screen.

I hope this helps.
