Here I post some of the informations I have collected over time, which a new player may find useful.

Playing in Widescreen
The best way to play the game in widescreen is to download the custom config, read the text file and copy everything into the right folders: https://www.moddb.com/games/star-trek-bridge-commander/downloads/widescreen-for-bridge-commander

If you can't start the game try the following things
1. Check if your Legacy Components in Windows 10 are on: You can find it under Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Turn Windows features on or off -> make sure Legacy Components + DirectPlay is selected.
2. Start the stbc.exe as admin and in the Windows XP or 7 compatibility mode.

How to play online
Since the shutdown of all the Gamespy servers, it's no longer possible to play the multiplayer mode without some help. Thankfully, Bridge Commander supports LAN mode you can play it via a VPN-Client like Radmin or ZeroTier, alternativ if you know the IP adress of the host, by connecting direct to the adress.

Hey guys, I updated the widescreen fix on moddb based on feedback I read here. Now it includes the options.cfg and put in additional information into the read me. Should you have any more suggestion please let me know.

Edit: I removed the options.cfg again. Should you have problems, just let me know on Discord, Moddb or here

Thank you very much for your mod.I am beginner and tt is nice to see the game in widescreen.
I just noted that, after using the optiong.cfg in the mod, the game didn't start anymore. The problem was the Game Path. In my case, the game was installed under Program Files, in your case it was installed directly in C:. Just a hint, in case somebody else has a similar problem.

I would like to ask: what other mods do you recommend for a beginner?
I have seen the Quincentennial mod (seems too complex) and the Kobayashi MAru. Or maybe it is better to start to play without mods?

Thanks in advance!

Dani
Thanks for letting me know, i will change that tonight with a new upload.

I would recommend that you play it once just with the widescreen mod, so you can experience to original feeling ;)

I never tried the Quincentennial mod, but played the Kobmaru to death. So, I can really recommend it for exploring the potential of the game. Another amazing mod is the remastered mod. That one you can also play in singleplayer. It updates the game on so many ways.

The remastered mod you can find on the BC-Central forum and the Kobmaru under www.kobmaru.de
Hey, nice work on the mod so far! Got a few issues/recommendations for you:

While 1080P is nice, it's missing the equally common 1366x768 ration you find on many laptops; this game is certainly old enough to be playable on a non-gamer laptop, so it would be good to have that resolution fully supported in widescreen.

Further, I found issues with getting the game to run with the provided options.cfg file in the GOG version, even with the help posted above; there appears to be some hidden characters or similar that the game expects that your file does not have. I would honestly recommend that you simply remove the file and advise people to change the settings, as described in the Readme file/

All of the anpve can be worked around easily enough. More troubling, though: apparently, when you set the game to 1080P (or any other mod resolution), the game no longer pipes sound to anything other then the built-in speakers. HDMI, audio jack, doesn't matter - only built-in will function for a laptop. CHanging the resolution back to standard format in the options file resolves this issue, so I suspect it's something to do with the included .py files; they're not allowing GOG to change sound devices as they should. This cannot be worked around without actual code knowledge, so I'm requesting you look into this ASAP!
Hello Darkmage, as you can read above, I didn't original include the options.cfg. Only after some feedback, I included it and now I receive of course another wave of feedback :)

I guess I will delete it again and write the read me file a bit better. About the resolution, since 1080p is still the most common and I use it on both my pc and laptop, I choose that resolution as default. But you can config it to your custom resolution, for that just look at the read me. About the Audio, I don't think the problem comes from the widescreen mod. I just tested the vanilla and widescreen version. Both work on my laptop with the audio jack, but both fail with the HDMI cable. I really don't know why, but I will ask the experts in the BC-Central community. They are much more skilled than I'm :)

hey i was wondering if you have an updated link to the discord server for bridge commander i just recently got my account back after being hacked and im trying to get back into the servers i was in
Sorry, I missed you post. The current link for the Discord should work, doesn't it for you?
Switching the multiplayer server to master.333networks.com by editing masterserver.txt should help to get this online feature working.
