the original game had the ability to add testmode which would allow you to repair sub systems and restock quantum torpedo's, does anyone know how to get this to work

Here is a link to GameSpot that tells you how to activate Test Mode and the cheats that you can use with it right here.

I have tested it myself and if you put "-TestMode" (without quotation marks) at the end of the "Target:" for the shortcut you will see something like shown in the attached images. "Test Only" will replace "Quick Battle" if done correctly. The cheats themselves require you to be in tactical mode (not on the bridge) before allowing you to use them after you launch the game with "-TestMode" enabled.

As GameSpot says, the cheats pressed simultaneously are:
Ctrl+Shift+R to completely repair your current target
Ctrl+Shift+K to damage targeted substem by 25%
Ctrl+Shift+Q to gain ten (10) quantum torpedos
Ctrl+Shift+G for God Mode

If you experience the same results you previously did, then I am sorry because I've done what I could to help you with the information provided as well as screenshots (the numbered screenshot was captured via Steam).

it won't work with the GOG Galaxy shortcut you will need to get to the game files and find the application and send a new shortcut to the desk top then add the "-TestMode" (without the quotes) to the new shortcut.

For GOG Galaxy, you can use the "Launch parameters Custom executables / arguments" to duplicate the executable and add the argument -TestMode without a shortcut. I suggest making the duplicate EXE the default so it will automatically launch that version when you click "Play" on Galaxy. As far as the shortcuts created by Galaxy, I attempted with one shortcut and it didn't work. I don't use Galaxy for games that I play primarily offline anyway so it isn't that huge a deal to me that the shortcuts don't work. I'm sure there is a way to get them to work but it is easier for me not to use Galaxy for the game anyways.
