Just a heads up to anyone planning to get this. If you haven't played it, Armada II improved upon virtually everything that the first Armada was. In fact, other than wanting to play the campaign, there's little reason to get the first Armada. However, the voice acting (when you click on ships and tell them to do things) is just pure garbage in Armada II. And they redid every single phrase from the first game. However, there is hope. I discovered this decades ago when the games were new, but the sound files are named exactly the same between the two games so if you copy all of the ship voice clips from the first game and paste them over the ones from the second then you will have a much, much better experience over all.

Hopefully this helps somebody. I couldn't possibly stand to play Armada II with the default voices.

Can't wait for this to release.

I thought I was the only one who thought this :D The Borg voiceovers were so so so bad
I think the story in the original is better. Can't wait to play as Borg in the sequel's skirmish, though. Took me a while to notice that you could merge cubes into tactical fusion cubes. What a nice surprise.
What's funny is that the main reason that I'm getting this game (apart from "Eh, it's 10 dollars") is Alice Krige managing to do a voice in the cutscenes that is both hauntingly melancholy and coldly alien.

I just never really got into this one after playing through the first Armada but, as I said, for 10 dollars, I'm down.

The cutscenes with actual actors were great. Alice Krige and Patrick Stewart were as great as ever. The gameplay voices from rando voiceover actors... pure garbage.

What is funny about that post is that you are extremely and bafflingly wrong about exactly one part of your assertion.
None of these people are random voice actors, all are industry veterans and a very large number of them are Star Trek alums.
Now, I have a nostalgic view of their performances so I like their cheese whiz performances, but I do see how someone else may look extremely unfavorably upon them and I can't fault that because without nostalgia goggles, the voice direction leaves much wanting.
That said, I expect that the ones that are star trek alumnus were not especially experienced at video game voice over and its specific needs and came aboard purely out of their enthusiasm for star trek in and of itself. Meanwhile the rest are just rank and file voice actors who are in literally every game of the era so they probably just phoned it in in a single afternoon because they had a contract with the publisher.
So yeah...the voice over leaves something to be desired for all but the most nostalgia addled like myself.

What's baffling to me is how you came to the exact wrong conclusion. It's as if you didn't read everything I wrote. You just cherry picked certain words out of certain sentences and formed your own reality out of nothing.
this is an extremely funny argument. my only regret is that it's so short

No, I addressed one specific sentence: "The gameplay voices from rando voiceover actors... pure garbage." the "rando" assertion was the exactly one part. I agreed with the rest of your assessment including the sentiment that the AI barks and unit dialogue was poor at best.
All I did was add context to why their performances might have been so poor. Of course Krige and Stewart were good, they could read the phone book and be captivating. All I was saying is that a very large portion of those other voices were performed by Star Trek regulars or frequent guest actors--likely because they enjoy being a part of Star Trek. But most of them aren't voice actors by trade, or weren't at that time.
That is all.

Then oh boy are you going to be thrilled when you learn about ultra fusion cubes.
