One last follow-up and my final response to support.

--------------------------------

Hello again.

I'm largely good. While it would be ideal to be able to do it from the offline installer, Galaxy does provide the option to play it.

Upon your suggestion, I have tried downloading the offline installer one more time. This time, it seems to be working. At first, it stated that it was syncing to the GOG Galaxy Cloud but I have uninstalled GOG Galaxy and then reinstalled the offline version. It still works. As such, it seems that it was just a bad download/install.

I will share this with the forum so others will know to try it. As for me, I can now confirm that it works on the offline installer.

Thank you for your assistance. You may close the ticket.

P.S. Since I have your attention anyway, I would just like to add in that I would also throw money at GOG for MechCommander 2. Honestly, while I currently have a legacy 95 machine that plays Mechcommander 1 Gold, I'd happily buy both Mechcommanders if it would get MechCommander 2 on GOG.

----------------------------------------------------

So it does seem that my problems were caused by too many of us stampeding to download Armada 2 when it released and the download having hiccups. As such, another option to fix it may be to just download it again today or tomorrow now that server load is reduced.

(Don't judge on the Mechcommander request. We all have our wants here. ^_^ )
What helped me here, using also Win 10 and 2k Resolution, the dxcfg.exe and switch it to windowed instead of default and fullscreen. I have often problems, also with current games, that they have a problem, when I start the games in fullscreen. Maybe it helps a few of you as well to know thi.s

Thank you, switching to windowed mode helped me get the game started.

Before (at fullscreen mode), after a black screen, it switched back to desktop, but all input methods were freezed on that screen. On the other screen the mouse worked. I had to kill the game via the task manager after the crash/freeze.

So far nothing in this thread has coaxed the game into launching for me. I still get the splash screen and then nothing.

I've tried:
Forcing windowed mode in the DirectX settings
Manually installing the DirectX 9.0c runtimes
Installing the unofficial patch
Updating my video drivers from the manufacturer's custom drivers to the latest reference drivers
Uninstalling and reinstalling multiple times, through both Galaxy and the offline installer

Still, all I see is the splash screen.

==EDIT==
After an email from support and another day fiddling with it, I've finally gotten in-game. What did it for me was using the most recent version of dgVoodoo, and using it to both force windowed mode and force a screen resolution. I'm attaching screenshots of my settings for anyone else who's still struggling with it.

Is this going to get fixed anytime soon? Waited patiently for this release and now am still waiting for it to actually work.
Posting this in case it helps anyone else. When I launched the game, I would get the little Armada 2 splash screen and then the game would crash.

I turned on the following 2 compatibility options and now it works:

1) "Disable full-screen optimisations"
2) "Override high DPI scaling behaviour. Scaling performed by: Application".

Sometimes it won't launch though GOG Galaxy even after following those steps, it will have the exact same behaviour instantly crashing to desktop. Either browse to the installation folder and launch the Armada2.exe or use the desktop shortcut and it should launch.

After downloading and installing patches and setting to windowed, game would not start for me. Turned out that RivaTuner was the reason. Added the game to RivaTuner profile and disabled onscreen display for the game and it starts and plays just fine now.

I have the Same issue with Armada 2 - have you resolved?

SmollestLight: We are looking into the issues that have been reported.
Unfortunately, we are unable to reproduce some of them, so please contact our Technical Support with your DxDiag files should your game not work.

XavierMace: The issue seems to be the way your wrapper is handling the game menu's on some systems. I have no issues on my desktop with discrete graphics but on my Surface Pro 6 the menu has issues which seems to mirror the behavior others are reporting. You can get to the main menu without issue, but it stops rendering in real time. You can hear sounds working normally (music, mouse over effects, etc) but none of the menu animations work and if you click any button you have to alt+tab out and alt+tab back in to refresh. If you get all the way into an actual game/match, it works normally unless you try to bring up the menu.

If I replace your d3d8.dll and ddraw.dll with the latest DLL's from dgvoodoo, the main menu renders/animates properly but causes other issues.

I did open a support ticket on this.
My Same experience on a Surface Pro also. alt+tab is the only thing that'll progress the menus. I also filed a ticket and it was never addressed. IMHO, if loads of folks are reporting the same exact issues, it should be easily replicated.

MoparDewd:
WTF.

I try to start the game and ... ... nothing happens. No error no message.

Update: Installed the latest GoG Galaxy client without starting the old one after a reboot fixed the issue for me.

Check your windows event log.
Check your dll dependencies
Install VC (32 bit) runtimes.
Use DG Voodoo

The game is old and not compatible with some graphic cards (especially integrated ones). dgVoodoo could solve that.
I had an issue with Armada 2 Not launching as well and I went to my video card drivers auto update website and now Armada 2 works perfectly.
For some reason the method of getting Star Trek Armada 2 and other games working on windows 10 that GOG used seems to be incompatable with Windows 10 default video drivers.
