I've been playing Star Ruler 2 for some time now in Linux (Mint 17.2 64-bit). It's been working great until, well... one of two things affected it.

a) I'm constantly tracking the Oibaf ppa, so I keep getting new mesa/intel driver versions which might have messed up things a bit.

b) I've reinstalled the game using the new scripted (*.sh) installer, which might be... packed with a few files missing?

What is the actual problem, you ask?

The game won't load the textures for 3 out of the 4 available shipsets, which leaves me with invisible ships unless I select the first shipset - Gevron for each player (remnant ships are also visible for some reason).

Ok, they're not entirely invisible... if I zoom out and get the tactical view, the icons for the ships will render. But if I zoom in to see a battle for example, I'll see projectiles coming out of empty space.

Is anyone else seeing this weird glitch?

Sounds like a G-driver issue but the best test in to install the a different machine... that will tell you if the files are there.

Yeah, I've ruled out any installer issues. Checked the windows installer and the file structure is pretty much the same in terms of assets at least.

It's most likely a driver issue, though the fact that only 3 out of 5 shipsets (counting remnant) are affected is really strange.

I did notice that the affected shipsets assets (which turned invisible) are stored in an *.ogex format as opposed to the 2 working sets (Gevron and Tyrant - for the remnants) which are stored as *.obj.

I'm thinking that the *.ogex loader may somehow be affected by some of the recent driver changes.

Would still be nice to know if anyone else is seeing this...

Posting this here, perhaps it will be useful for someone in the future.

There was an issue in the mesa glsl module that got fixed with the latest commits. I believe this was the culprit: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/commit/?id=6f3954618b0fe273af76af79ce9ec56566b79b2a

The invisible ships are now visible again.
