I give up trying to play this game. It's performance is just atrocious.

I have about 20h in my play-thru and maybe double (or more) spent just trying to get this game to perform mildly better. I've been reducing quality of everything but no matter what I do at some point I start getting drops to 5 FPS. The game looks awful, unplayable as is because of the fuzzyness of the images and still the game performs very badly.

I've tried multiple performance mods, multiple game settings. I've gone to the ridiculous point of setting the game to 1024x768 WITH UPSCALLING and still getting performance issues.

I don't have a high-end setup but it's not also low-end and very well within the scope of the minimum requirements. But it doesn't matter, people with 4090s and I9s are reporting the same exact problem.

This game is a performance disaster... and not to mention all the bugs and core missing features. What a disappointment.

Going to try and forget about it (which is hard because I love the series) and maybe come back in a couple years...
Post your specs, cant say it doesnt matter unless we see your specs. if it doesnt meet the minimum requirements it wont run properly. So do post your specs so we can try to help somehow.

Not looking for help; just venting frustration and hopefully warning any prospective buyers that the game has issues.

I was going to give you a long explanation but I realized I was just rewriting everything I already said on my original post.

You are not actually helping anyone without posting specs.

I have low end spec computer with gtx 1070 and it runs really well. 30+frames with fsr.

It's running poorly for me too. Extremely framey/choppy. Totally unpayable.

Acer Nitro 5 (AN515-44)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 4600H

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti

Memory: 8GB

I'm going to add some RAM and hope for the next patch. Otherwise waiting for PS5 version I guess.

ryzen 7 5800H
rtx 3060
40GB RAM 3200mhz DDR4
M2 V-NAND SSD 3.4GB/s / 2.5GB/s

Well within specs.

I can run the game at 60-90FPS if using framegen, 1440p and DLSS (balanced or performance in busy areas) but get drops to 5FPS every 30 or so minutes of gameplay which need a full game restart to fix.

Like I said, this exact issue is affecting people with desktop 4090s, people with higher tier CPUs, etc.

This issue also happens, like I also mentioned, even if I set the game to the lowest possible graphical settings.

Some say it is related to some memory leaks, I'm not so confident of that. I believe they have issues with their DLSS/FG implementations.

Regardless, the game has serious performance issues and has not been adequately optimized. This is not up for debate since the CEO himself admitted optimization problems (which led to A-Life being turned off at release).

I appreciate the concern but I'm not looking for ideas or suggestions on how to get the game to a playable state. I have wasted enough time trying to fiddle with settings and I'm confident to say that the only true fix will be to wait for the game to be patched.
Gotta agree with THX1342.

I have been playing the game for a while with very few problems. I was wondering why so many were complaining. I followed the story line through the Swamps mission and got the scanner but didn't advance the story from there. I then realized I had not done much exploring.
My settings were on Epic with DLSS set for DLAA and frame generation was needed for decent framerates varying between 95 and my fps cap 140.

My specs: 19-1900K & RTX 4090 with 32GB RAM & 2560x1440 resolution.

Then I got to Rostock. OMG what a problem that was. Framerates between 60 & 86, although playable, would suddenly decrease and it started to turn into a stuttering mess.
I went into the first place to buy supplies and use my personal stash. Talking to the vendor it would occasionally freeze.
After swapping guns in my stash I would close it look up and freeze.

I used HWInfo64 and discovered it really is a memory problem. Each time it locked up HWInfo64 recorded the max ram use at 31.7598 GB. There was nothing left for the system or the game to use, so it crashed.

I'll have to stop playing here and hope for a patch.
Shame, I was really loving this game.

I will also submit a report to the devs since these crashes didn't allow for report generation.
Honestly I think it is just rendering everything in complex areas even if you can't see it. That is why if you stare in the general direction of a populated area the game just suddenly gets all stuttery even if you are just looking at a wall and a factory.

I'm fairly far and I have to say the game seems to be running significantly better for me in the latter areas with the exception of a certain slideshow boss fight, but not sure if that's a function of patching or drivers or just better optimization.
I've been playing this game (v1.1.2) in Linux under Proton. It plays great for a while, then for some reason I can't figure out, it starts skipping/juddering. It doesn't feel like low framerate, it feels like when you're hitting high disk activity, if that makes sense. I have this running on SSD so I don't think that's it, though. Quitting and restarting fixes the issue, at least until it starts happening again.

The devs also clearly have some memory leaks left to clean up, I can watch my free mem continually drop as I play the game, and it doesn't seem to be all freed even after I exit the game.

That said, when the game runs, it runs quite well. AMD 5600 / AMD 6700XT / 64GB RAM @ 1440p on Devuan (Debian) testing.

OMG another penguin. Hello, brother!

I'm trying to play (v1.0.3) but it just keeps hard-crashing my entire system. Kicking me out of the x-server session, even. I struggle through it with 4 minutes of downtime for logging back into a new desktop, and then waiting for shader compilation. Only to be hit with another crash 10 seconds in, making me realize it's actually something in the area that does it repeatedly.

If I'm somewhere out and away from the multitude of problematic areas, it runs absolutely fine. But having to go talk to Varan, was an impossibility. Approaching crashed the game. Looking away got me closer, staring at feet, ceiling, walking backwards, but as soon as dialogue pulled the camera, crash. Even attempted to climb up from behind the wall Varan sits at. Crash. I can't tell what the issue is exactly, because I literally don't get to see it.

That situation I could only work around by starting a long range shootout and drawing the NPCs away from the area, and towards me. Looting Varan works just as well, luckily enough. But, this really can't be it...

AMD 7800X3D & RX 7900 XT, 64GB RAM.
Resolutions and ratios don't make a difference.

I'm not quite sure but it may be related to the kernel being used, as there have been some reports of the issue disappearing with newer kernel versions, which are not available for Mint just yet, annoyingly. Never had an issue with other games though, so I'm hoping GSC can patch that issue before I have to wait all the way to kernel release...

Game update is downloading right now... at least I know of the locations I need to go visit to check if it's fixed

You definitely have a better machine than mine!

I recommend the 1.1.1 update at the very least. fixes a lot.

As a point of comparison, I am running the 6.11.10 kernel from Debian(Devuan) testing. Given that you have the 7900XT, make sure you don't have any video-related firmware messages in dmesg, i.e.:

sudo dmesg | grep -i firmware

EDIT: Also, for Mint, apparently you can get newer kernels with Mainline. I can't vouch for this process as I'm not on Mint, but this link shows how: https://fostips.com/install-kernel-6-10-linux-mint-22/ - 6.10 is pretty new.
