I installed the zone of alienation mod, my pc couldnt handle it so i uninstalled it, the problem is some mod "residue" remains and i have no idea how to delete it.

I deleted the gamedata folder and even reinstalled the game several times but still unbelivably its there. The loading screen is still the mod's which doesnt bother me, but the hand texture is all messed up by a mix of the mods and vanilla and its effectively ruinign my game by killing immersion, i cant even enjoy the game anymore and i dont know how to delete this.

Please help.

That's weird.

I always thought everything would be in gamedata, and that deleting it would 'delete' any mod. I guess not tho :(

Are you sure you don't have more than one copy of the game installed; and you are running a shortcut that points to a "not deleted" copy of the game, while your new installs and uninstall attempts are actually pointing to a different copy? (does that make sense?)

I thought so too, never had any problems with mods before. I dont have more than one copy installed, though i did make backups of some files, i cant imagine that would be the problem though. I also deleted my save files folder. I dont know where else to look. My pc is divided into different users, could that have something to do with it ? dunno just throwing info out there in case it matters. Any other folders that could hold files for the game ?

Thanks for replying.

Could do - if you didnt install / uninstall / reinstall from the admin account it might cause an issue I suppose.

Was the mod an exe or a zip when you got it / set it up?

The mod was a zip, it had a gamedata folder and a bin folder with the xrgame.dll file. My account isnt the admin by default, at least i dont think so. But i have installed-uninstalled almost every mod out there before no problem.

Why did it have the dll file? Thats weird.

Edit:

Okay, so this is the mod you downloaded?
http://www.moddb.com/mods/zone-of-alienation-mod

- did you download it from moddb or elsewhere?

as its a major overhaul mod, that maybe explains the dll - though I'm not too sure about that. I think the best thing you can do is maybe hop on ModDB and PM one of the mod creators (seems they're still active on there) and see if they've any ideas.

If you plan on trying out lots of mods but want to be able to restore to a vanilla state for example to try out other mods, I suggest using the Jonesoft Generic Mod Enabler (JSGME)

yeah thats the mod, i did download from moddb, i'll try to contact the author, but its a rare issue, so weird that after reinstall its still there, Does the xrgame.dll cause problems ? i've ran mods like complete, lurk and autumm aurora 2 before, do those have their own xrgame.dll too ? Anyway the file itself was deleted but maybe it affects some hidden game file somewhere (?)

It could be a registry entry I suppose (no idea - though I have in the past had a few issues doing a clean install of SoC myself).

Actually, after you ininstalled, did you use anything like ccleaner to get rid of leftover data? - just wondering if that might help.

I did ran ccleaner after, thought it might help but no, i foudn a halfwa solution, someone in gsc forums, where i also posted for help said that Windows Virtual Store is to blame and i should ran it as admin, which fixed the problem. I say halfway solution since i would like to not have to constantly run as admin, but at least it works. I have no idea what windows virtual store is or why this problem only happened now with this mod or how to totally fix it, ideas ?

someedudee: ideas ?
hmmm... that does sound familiar - regarding virtual store. no idea what it is / what its for though.

as to running as admin - i presumed you already were as its better for stability in the stalker games.
