I will make this post to not forget all my knowledge I got in trying to make speed busters work on different PCs/windows/version of spb
Obviously if you have a commentary or anything to add, feel free to.
Installation and working experience
-GoG version was tried on 3 different PCs, XP, Seven, Vista, all equipped with demon tools.
None of them worked, always the same bug ou dll*CPA missing then crash to desktop + CD asked.
Original CD of SPB was in drive to test, same message
-Original version that was working before GoG install on windows seven (french version + 3 additional cars + 1.1 euro NT patch+Nglide 2012 for 3dfx) did not work anymore after GoG install, SPB screens launches then nothing, config panel does not launch
Uninstalling gog version and reverting the bat file with "sdbinst -u SpeedBusters.sdb" command didn't change anything.
However original version can still be launched now if under "windows XP" compatibility mode. Only difference is movie intro launching and 2D speedometer and icons ingame at normal size
Reverting windows with windows recovery function didn't change anything. I recommend to anyone having a working original version of SPB to avoid installing gog version unless you made a complete ghost save image of your computer.
-Tried uninstalling demon tools on seven PC, reinstall gog, same result, not working
-Tried using No-CD patch on original install, game launches but then crashes
Conclusion: ATM only original version with original CD on drive works for me, with Nglide at 1920x1080 (full HD resolution) but 4:3 display
Ingame working irregularities
Standard install has flaws on modern PC even if working. They are based on the game gameplay taking into account PC speed.
Problems noticed: Cars teleporting, AI cars replacing continuously on the road, some cars behaviour altered (bloc 2 cars turning really hard)
Solution found: limit display to 59 frames per second (up to 70) with following programs
-Nvidia inspector
-MSI afterburners OSD fps limiter
recording function of fraps also works. Heard about "cpu killer" but didn't try
Copy pasting savegames into playerdata also shows some irregularities like showing wrong circuit for first game, records bugs like not showing properly. Didn't find solution for that yet
WHat i still need to try:
-installing Windows 95/98 on my modern PC and try both original + GoG version and No-CD executable
Obviously if you have a commentary or anything to add, feel free to.
