Hi
I've just bought Speed Busters and when I got into the game I wanted to set up the game to use my Xbox 360 controller. So I set it up as a wheel with the shoulder controller as accelerator and brake and the left stick as my steering device. However when I get into the game the accelerator doesn't work. And when I get back to the settings it has changed my device into a gamepad (which of course it is but a bit more functional than gamepads were when this game came out). Any idea how to get this game to actually use the controls I set instead of it trying to do the thinking for me when it comes to settings?

I can get my 360 fully function with both triggers for accelerate and brake, left stick for steering. But the main problem is this game will not save my configuration.
My advice is use Xpadder. This bug is similar to another Ubisoft release; POD.

Okay, forget what i said before. Just run the game with administrator mode if you're using Vista or 7. Now you can see the intro video and the game now will save your configuration. Enjoy!

EDIT: another problem, the X - axis (left thumbstick) used for steer introduce another problem. It move itself, i think it has something to do with dead zone. And the game wont detect d-pad.
Without x-padder, the 360 controller is almost useless.

Thanks a lot. That's going to be a lot of fun. But just one thing... How do I set it to be an analogue controller? Because I haven't found the way to use it for anything but a mouse.

Are you talking about xpadder?

yes.

KajQrd: yes.
In that case, you just map your right stick similar to your mouse movement. I attached my configuration, but take note i'm using default in game keyboard layout.z

I have now actually gotten the controller to work. But my problem now is one that I kind of doubt Xpadder will do anything about. The car reacts to me moving the stick. But it's reacting in an on/off way and not as an analogue stick. I would imagine remapping the stick to keys would present the same problem. My problem with it is that it's almost impossible to control the car. It either don't turn at all or it turns all the way to one side...

Yeah, Xpadder can't do anything about it - if you emulate keyboard controls on a gamepad it will always be purely digital controls. I'm using another layout, Y-axis for acceleration and right stick for steering. However, for some reason I loose control over my car even more often this way (I mean through analogue steering). I've come to the conclusion that keyboard controls are best after all. I've actually beaten the championship this way so it certainly works with some practice.
I actually think I have found the solution. I haven't gotten around to checking it in Speed Busters yet. But it works in Colin McRae Rally (the first one).

Download vJoy from here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/vjoystick/files/Beta%202.x/
Install it. This program allows you to create virtual joysticks. The purpose of this is to create joysticks from other input devices. But using the Universal Joystick Remapper from here you can reassign any axis of any joystick to a new virtual joystick. The interface isn't exactly superpolished. But I did get it to work reasonably well by creating a virtual 2-axis 4-button stick and assigning my x-axis (axis 1 on stick 1 in UJR) on the XBox 360 controller as x-axis on the virtual joystick and my trigger (axis 3 on stick 1 in UJR) to the y-axis of the virtual joystick. In order to have the gear shift on the shoulder buttons I assigned them (button 5 and 6) as button 3 and 4. And that's it. Now to use it I just selected joystick 2 in that game. I'll report back when I have it running in speed busters :-)

Wow, two and a half years later. Now THAT'S some serious dedication. :D

Interesting, though. I've also been experimenting with different remapping programs recently, hadn't heard about vJoy, though. Will definitely check it out so thanks for posting it!

Hi everyone. Did you have any luck making the X360 controller work properly with this game?
Here are some things I found out regarding controller support and analog steering. Wow, if this ain't a buggy mess!

The game has three game controller modes (gamepad, joystick and steering wheel). You can switch between these modes in "Options->Controls->Next". But only if you have previously bound at least one controller button to a game action. If you didn't, the three mode buttons are not clickable. You first need to assign your joystick buttons.

Next, only the steering wheel mode supports analog steering. In the other modes, you can bind the analog stick to left and right, but it will be digital steering only. This means that even if you have a regular Xbox controller, you need to select steering wheel mode. The analog triggers are not recognized at all in steering wheel mode, so you cannot use them to brake and accelerate. Also, the default sensitivity is set way too high, even the slightest touch of the analog stick means full steer. Click "settings" under the steering wheel icon and reduce the sensitivity to about 30%.

Then finally, and this is the most annoying thing, the game will reset to gamepad mode every time you return to the main menu. This means you lose analog steering and you need to switch it back to steering wheel mode. If you quit a race, and then choose another track without returning to the main menu inbetween, it won't be reset.

I have tested this with a Bluetooth Xbox One controller. No extra steps were needed to make the game recognize the controller.
