What happened to spaceengine.org? I thought this game was made by a Russian. I want to know more about its history. I don't want to pay these Connecticut people if they are ripping off the original developer.

Yes. The main programmer is Russian. If you want to know more about its history, you can jump right to the website you know, in the news section.
Recently Vladimir posted there much of the history oh SpaceEngine as blog posts, recovered by several places scattered through the net, I'm not sure if it's everything there but it should cover pretty much all.

The engine is still made by Vladimir, he is SpaceEngine and always will be the main programmer, but the SE team of collaborators has grown internationally.

The relevant news for your concern is at this link: https://spaceengine.org/news/blog220520/ and to put it simple, to secure the future of SpaceEngine it was something that needed to be done. The connecticut people you want to know about is one of the SE team.

Cosmographic Software is our company, of which Vladimir is a founding member. I don't understand what you mean about "what happened to spaceengine.org", the website is still there and hasn't changed.

Our company is not based in Russia for a number of reasons, some of which should be obvious.

I would still love to know what this means. What is "wiped"?
SpaceEngine is made in Russia and is still in Russia.

Formally the company is "based not in Russia," like some other "not in Russia" that are technically in Cyprus or some another country to avoid sanctions. Practically though, it's Russia all the way, since its founder, the core of the team, Vladimir Romanyuk, is literally in Saint Petersburg (Russia) as the page undeniably shows (fresh, the owner did log-in today). The site itself has only two versions, English and Russian, no Ukrainian nor others. Vladimir did not relocate, does not plan to, the money do inevitably go into Russia with all the bad consequences.

LOL

No money from SpaceEngine sales has gone to Russia since 2021. You also have no idea where Vladimir is nor what he plans to do.

I sincerely doubt this. I've done some searching and found a job ad made by Vladimir Romanyuk himself in May 2022. Translation:

"Looking for an OpenGL graphics programmer with an eye toward switching to Vulkan. The main language is C++.
SpaceEngine is my indie project that has grown into something bigger. It's been sold on Steam for almost 3 years now.
https://gamedev.ru/projects/forum/?id=122716

Cosmographic Software LLC is registered in the USA, but the contract will be signed with my individual entrepreneur, because making payments from the US is difficult.
The work is remote, but if you need a place to work, then St. Petersburg.
Salary: 200-250 thousand rubles.

Write to admin@spaceengine.org"

How can you explain this?

That post according your own translation contains per se an explanation, it mentions the LLC and it clearly says that "making payments [in Russia] from the US is difficult", which is common knowledge in this particular moment. You don't really expect people thoroughly specify financial reasons possibly going to be interpreted as of political nature on those posts, do you? That job has been taken by a EU-based programmer after few months, by the way.

My impression is that the goal of this entire thread is still to leverage current international issues to seemingly justify repercussions on common individuals trying to live by their work, and it's ugly as it can be. It won't go anywhere.

Other than that, you can refer to blog posts on the website, where the team (which is there only because of Vladimir) answered to those questions, as it does when it feels appropriate.

Please read the message I was originally quoting.

"No money from SpaceEngine sales has gone to Russia since 2021" said harbingerdawn.

And then you have Vladimir Romanyuk himself offering a job to Russians who, obviously, would have been paid with money from SpaceEngine sales.

Edit: can you please send me the links to the blog posts?

The money he has came from Steam sales prior to 2022. SE has been sold since June 2019, so he had/has a large fraction of 2.5 years worth of revenue in his possession.
