I'm currently playing SR1 and as the choice of guides/FAQs for this game are slim/none (at least in English) I've decided to start putting one together. So I'm asking the GOG community, what are you looking for in a SR1 guide? Also what useful & interesting information have you uncovered during your own time with the game, because I'm sure I haven't figured everything out yet ;)

EDIT 1: Any highly effective methods of using the trade system would be useful, my testing thus far is slow going.

EDIT 2: Can anyone provide confirmation/feedback regarding where Klissan tech, non-specific tech (i.e. no race tag) and non-standard gear, fit into the hierarchy of durability?

With regards to trading:

If you search for planet names in the Information Centre it gives you their current buy/sell prices. That way you can find the best place to sell goods and what might be profitable in the current star system. I unfortunately didn't realize this until 15 years in, when I basically have no space for trading.

I also find that luxuries generally have the best profit rate for me.

Things I'd like to see:

- Item property ranges (weights, fuel storage capacities, etc)
- Hints towards finding missions (if possible). Government missions are almost impossible to find now that I'm down to around 6 star systems.

Thanks for the reply and info re: trading :)

I'm getting a database of property ranges up and going currently.
I'll look into mission hints and see if I can develop a methodology for that.
Something I just found out: If you press Ctrl on the ship screen while at a planet you get a storage option when you select items instead of the usual sell/repair. If you store all your weapons, radar and so on you can make a large amount of space for trading items.

Definitely worth noting. There's another key command from that screen, if you hold down SHIFT while repairing an item it will repair all equipped items (cost is the same as if you do each item one by one)

I found a SR1 Wiki, it's content is a bit sparse at present but I'm starting to fill in the gear information I've gathered so far. Updates will be ongoing, feel free to check it out :)

Looks good so far.

I've just finished both Space Rangers games. Since the two are very similar you could borrow quite a bit of information from articles about the second game.

Let me know if you need any specific help with the guide.

Thanks all let you know :)

In a general update work on the guide continues but day to day life makes it slow going. Anyone interested tho feel free to add information to this thread and/or ask question suggest topics to be covered :)
