I am running Windows 7 64x and have been having the same issue with the black screen at the beginning that have been showing up in some other posts. The opening video would play for me but the main menu was just black with the sound and my cursor. I opened the cfg.txt file that is in the directory (Program Files(x86)/GOG.com/Space Rangers 2) and changed VideoMode=R2 to VideoMode=R1. This has solved my problems. Give it a try and let me know if that works.

I'm also sporting Windows 7 64x, but changing to VideoMode=R1 didn't help with my PC.

Sad to say it, but I've had poor luck with all the GOG games I've bought (they've all have odd glitches)...sigh.

Running the game in compatibility mode as the administrator might help you as well. You could also try skipping the opening video by editing the cfg.txt file. Change SkipVideo=False to SkipVideo=True. I would like to be able to help at least one person get the game running correctly so let me hear back if you try that.
Huh, I'm having a weird problem with the cfg file. I have the black screen problem, so I tried the solution of editing the cfg. I replace the VideoMode=R2 by R1, then save the cfg file. I launch the game, still no video. I go back to the game folder, reopen the cfg file and then I see that VideoMode has gone back to R2 by himself!!

I run Win 7 64bits and I'm always in administrator mode. Any solution to that problem?

Is the file set to read-only? If so, it won't allow any edits. You can change the read-only setting by right-clicking the file and going to properties.

The irony is that, no, it's not set to read-only! At least the read-only box is not ticked... I've also noticed that each time I launch the game, the resolution reverts itself to 800*600, and I have to manually set it again to 1024*768...

There's your problem... the R1 and R2 settings are resolution settings. I assume they swich between 800x600 and 1024x768. They fix the black screen problem for many players who are using netbooks with lower screen resolutions that cannot support 1024x768. If you manually switch it back, it will re-set it in the cfg file.

If you're able to run the game at both resolutions and you still get the black screen issue on both, then you may need to find another fix. Check around the GOG forums, I think there were a few other possible fixes that people found.

Yeah, seems that I'll have to find another fiw, because the problem occurs at both resolutions. Anyway, thanks for the information!!
